how do you kill them?

Cats I choke out with a catch pole they die very quickly, the rest I shoot. I believe these two methods are as humanly as you can possibly be when dispatching them.

I'm not one to use a knock in the head because it causes a mess when you clean them.

PETA don't care how you kill them they don't like any method. If you notice the mangy one, this is from overpopulation. They would rather they all die like this and suffer greatly than be managed and used as a resource.

I was lucky this year with only 1 mangy yote. Kind of pissed me off, was my fourth one of the morning. Had already pulled three of them and I walk up and only see blue/green eyes shinning back at me. In thick enough brush I couldn't see outline. Since no yellow eyes I'm thinking cat. Walk back grab my catch pole and get closer and its a monster pale yote, missing half its hide. A bit let down to say the least. Would have been my biggest but instead the big of the year went 52 to base of tail. 64 inches total.

Our land season just ended so I'm on to beaver for the next month or so. Pulled as 68 pounder out last week and I want to beat before season ends.

Good deal

I caught another cat this morning and had a coyote pull out I guess just a toe catch. I had my buddy ride along with me this morning so I could show him I wasn't crazy the coyotes have moved out of their club. He was shocked because most of these places would be wrapped up in coyotes come turkey season every year he said.

I'm picking up a one here and there nothing like I expected. There is tons of old sign. Looks Like I should have been here a month ago.

Even if a deer steps in them the shape of their foot allows them to pull out fairly easily. It has happened that where they have to be released but it is very very rare.

Yeah but if you don't take a few, you won't have any pretty ones. Once you see mange start running through an area it makes a believer out of you quick.

A stinky double. Man this is a beautiful set up here. There is 120acre field behind them. Next year I will hit this area hard for fox. I wish the guy had shown me this place first.

Wasn't much stirring last night but did finally catch my first coon of the season. I believe this area got hit by Distemper because I have seen very little coon sign and usually catch a couple a day land trapping.

First one of the morning good sized male.

This is the biggest coyote I have ever caught. He was a monster. I'm gonna get it mounted.

Bet that skunk was fun to deal with.

What'd you do to keep the spray down?

I try to shoot them in the side and they won't fully release but my bullet must have not him correctly because he sprayed. I am used to skunk smell so it's not bad I just reset the trap as fast as I can.

Last check of the year and it was a good one.
Ended up with 8 coyotes 4 cats and 2 fox. Not what I really expected but I learned the land and found the honey holes. Caught 4 of the coyotes out of the same place.

Man that is un fricking real. I've always heard how hard yotes were to trap. You make it look as easy as shooting blackbirds.

Do you ever use snares?

Me too until I learned how to catch them. A lot of that is old wives tales.

I've tried them some but I had a harder time keeping the deer out of them.

I've been thinking about getting a few to fart around. Mostly fencelines and thinly wooded canals taht yotes run on- no deer.

What size cable and what type of locking mechanism would you recommend?

Holy shite

I'm in Pennsylvania and there are tracks everywhere in the snow. Can't trap due to work but this thread is about to made me say f-it. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow but my camera is a piece of junk.

That's what I would do too. Either in the heart of the spine. Head shot would always spray.
