I'm sure I'll get blasted for asking, but I think it's a legit question & topic. Say you were at U-High for 4 years, how excited would you be about staying another 3-5 years in the same place? I assume this scenario doesn't apply to die-hard tigers. But what if you didn't grow up bleeding purple/gold? Same place, same folks riding your jock. For some people, college is about getting away from home, meeting new friends, exploring your independence. Its a tough situation for the young men, that's some serious pressure. It'd be hard to get upset at a young man for wanting to take the path less traveled, see what's out there. That being said, I hope Brumfield doesn't feel that way

Yes, because I was raised an LSU fan.

The reason tim and probably garrett don't come to uhigh is because they say that alabama has better coaching.

"Same place same folks riding your jock ".
I don't get this perspective.
If I felt people were "riding my jock" for my play, i wouldn't quit Baton Rouge. I'd quit football.

Yes.

There's no place like Tiger Stadium. I can't imagine how awesome it is to play there.

I went to college in my home town of BR and had the time of my life. Met tons of new people, did tons of new things, got a great education, enjoyed the best gameday experience in the country, etc. etc.

I also know plenty of people who had that mindset and absolutely hated going away for school. It's different for every person.

Most on here didn't care if Williams went elsewhere. Mainly because he handled the recruiting process fairly well and didn't get peoples hopes up for nothing.

That and we had an impressive haul at his position. The coaches know these kids, I don't think either sides were butthurt with this decision.

It would be both awesome and overwhelming at the same time. The pros are obvious...proximity to the university, exposure to the college environment and to the LSU program, etc. However, there would also be an insurmountable amount of pressure from everyone the recruit surrounds himself with to choose LSU.

Many times, kids choose to rebel and go against what everyone wants them to do; many times, they just want to get away from home to gain a different perspective; many times they find what they are looking for elsewhere. Point is, LSU is not for everyone.

A good buddy of mine went to U-High from the time he was little all the way through his senior year in high school and then went to LSU for four years. Essentially, he was on campus for 80% of his life. He was in class with several others that did the same thing; he told me that at graduation, it was about an even split in the class in terms of people that wound up at LSU and people that went elsewhere...of the people that went to school elsewhere, he said the majority of them just wanted something new for college.

So, in short, it all depends on the mindset of the recruit. If it were me, I'd be hard pressed to wind up anywhere else. But, I can certainly see why U-High kids would be drawn to other schools.

Went to U-High for 9 years. Though I loved my time there, I had to get off the LSU campus after graduation. I can totally understand why recruits would want to go experience another area. Still wouldn't go to Bama though....

I was raised an LSU fan, but I am sure if I was being courted by schools around the country I would choose to leave campus. Being a fan is a different mindset (or should be) from being an athlete and making decisions to facilitate your career and gain valuable life experiences.

I would commit to USC a year ahead of time, on NSD put on a BAMA hat, and fax my LOI to LSU

That's kinda what I don't get. I totally understand a kid leaving, but why Bama? Certainly they feel the hate & anger regarding that school & coach. Why associate yourself? I guess Bama's run recently is enough to rethink things.

Though they're my highschools rival, and I cringe at the thought of going there, yes, I would go to LSU.
The point that can't be overstated is at the end of the day, we are what makes this machine turn. Whether your from BR, Shreveport, NOLA, it doesn't matter. The question I would have is what does any other program offer that LSU doesn't, from a football aspect, the answer is nothing. Top facilities, top coaches, top atmosphere, top program.

Sure you can go to USC, ND, or anywhere else in between, but at the end of the day, you're not one of them. People are going to support/care about their own, when push comes to shove.
Yeah, if you win a heisman or something like Mark Ingram, they'll adopt you as one of their own, but for every Ingram there are a thousand Marcus Dupree's, sadly to say.

I'll add, growing up, I wasnt a tiger fan, nor did I understand. I'll be 23 this week, and I wish I understood this in HS.
Also, people are going to have their reasons to do things, regardless of how much sense it makes for us, it makes sense for them, and their living their own life.

I can see it going both ways. Some people want to see something else. I didn't want to go to Texas A&M because half of my HS was going there

That's a small town way of looking at things. Some people wanna leave home, and see what else is out there. Do you want a college town? A glitzier city? A small town atmosphere, but not home?

The bigger question is, if a kid is getting tuition help to attend LSU's Lab School, is there some kind of loyalty expected when it comes time to choose where you play College Football? If it were up to me and you received tuition breaks or help and you were offered a Grant in Aid by LSU and turned it down to go elsewhere, you'd be getting a Bill shortly after Signing Day. Little Nicky will pay it, it's much cheaper than the Mercedes Collins' girlfriend got.
Having vented all that, I have no idea if kids ARE getting tuition help at University.
