Mettenberger props - agree or disagree?

The more I think about this kid the more I like him. I know he gets beat up for not being a great vocal leader and his foot speed is a major negative as a QB. However, the guy stands in the pocket and has gotten blasted more than a few times but still delivered the ball more often than not. I think he will have a fantastic 2013 college football season and will be the difference maker that many thought he would be in 2012. All in all I would say he did better than average in 2012 considering he was a 1st year starter in the SEC. I look for great things out of him in 2013 especially with a bonafide pro-style offensive coordinator running the ship on offense and his top receivers back for another season. He has a major-league arm. Time to put it all together. Geaux Tigers!

Les will never give up enough control ofthe offense.
New OC was fired mid season and former team wins super bowl.

Without Mett the Bama game wouldn't have been nearly as close. He put the team on his back that night and took some serious shots in the process. Hopefully we can get that out of him all 12 games next year and be competing for a championship.

New OC was the only OC to the only QB in NFL to make the playoffs his first five yrs in a row - see Joe Flaco.

He has a lot of great qualities. Taking hits is one of the things I like most about him. He hasn't come close to hitting his potential though. He has a great arm and toughness. Major negatives are his pocket awareness, accuracy, and footwork.
Luckily, we have Cam here who's known to mold some great QBs. If he can't help put it together, I don't think anyone ever will with Mett.

The more I think about it, the more and more Mett reminds me of Flacco, from immobility to the strong arm to struggling with intermediate routes. If Cameron can make Flacco a winner, he can do it with Mett.

Mett was a stud in home games already with the exception being some early non-conference games. But he played well in all his home SEC games. He struggled on the road in the SEC against Auburn, UF, A&M, and Arky. I think this is a focus problem being his first year at the helm in very hostile environments with inconsistency on the line, and I would bet that most SEC superstars in their first year took some lumps on the road. Once he has more confidence/consistency with his Oline, and another year with OBJ and Landry it should be better. But If his Oline struggles he will likely play poorly on the road again, and we could see sub par performance against UGA, MSU, Ole miss and Bama.
imho.
Here's to hoping for Mett and the teams progress!

If the receivers don't get separation again this year, it'll be the same old story. Love Mett's heart.

If he doesn't step up to his hype we he arrived on campus, we are going to be in for a long season. We have lost our great defense so the offense has to really play this year so the defense doesn't have to be on the field the whole game. I wish him well but I am going to wait & see.

He showed what he is capable of in the Bama game. Aside from that, I wasn't that impressed. He is was not a very polished qb last season. He had terrible pocket presence and for a guy as tall as him, got way too many passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He has all the tools, he just needs to keep working on getting better.

I think he will always be a Journeyman QB. There are no excuses left - to defend him.

I don't think he was playing in a good system. I think we will see improvement with Cameron coaching him.

Should have added that only reason Les hired CC was to keep his buddy off unemployment. . .

We were not stressing fundamentals with the kid. The word around the campfire is that prior to Alabama, Krags got really serious with him on his footwork and they spent two weeks solid on shaping up his fundamnentals.
He was really sharp coming out of the gate and played his best game against them if you ask me. In the biggest games of the regular season he showed up. The wind was craptastic in College Station and with our offense, that's going to put a premium on accuracy on vertical routes.
That is his greatest weakness, along with mobility of course.
Fast Forward to this year, and we've got Krags still around the program and Cam Cameron as OC. This guy has trained some serious talent in the NFL and gotten them when they were young.
Plenty of people mention Brees, Rivers & Flacco, and they do it with good reason. This guy molded younger cats in the professional ranks, and I'm sure he was involved in the talent evals leading up to the drafting of these kids. Especially so in Baltimore as Harbaugh was an inexperienced guy in the game at that level on that side of the ball.
So he's helped draft and mold the career of two very successful-and very physically different-QB's who went on to win Super Bowls. He's played a formative role in their professional development.
The guy knows the fundamentals of the position and can design an offense around personnel that take advantage of it.
I'll also point to his versatility. Whether you're talking about a short guy or a tall one (Brees or Rivers/Flacco), he's coached them to great things.
Or look at mechanics. Flacco & Brees are excellent in that department. Rivers is absolute trash with his throwing motion. Yet Cameron coaxed amazing performances and production out of all of them. This speaks to adaptability.
Bottom line is that Zach-even after two years here-is very, very raw. He's going to get on-the-job, NFL-caliber training for a year before he leaves LSU. It will yield dividends, bigtime.
In my personal opinion, we've easily got the best QB Coach & tutor this side of Athens, GA. Richt is the only coach of the position in our conference that can point to consistently producing offense and great quarterbacking out of the position on a level similar to that of Cameron.

Yo, deauce985 ..oh great , his only weaknesses are " pocket awareness, footwork , and accuracy " Well , hell , then he should be awesome. Who wouldn't want a QB that lacks "pocket awareness , footwork, and accuracy " LOL !

Pretty stupid reseponse when you realize the difference he made in improving his footwork in only two weeks worth of work prior to the Bama game.
Footwork & accuracy are both linked and easily improvable based on simple drills that focus on technique in those areas.
You aren't "born" with footwork and accuracy. They're completely controllable. He's got the physical skillset to be an NFL QB.
Your take is kinda shiteous.

Wow. He has played ONE year. I would say he played as well as or better than Jason Campbell (Auburn) played in his first THREE years and Campbell ended up being a first round pick after a stellar senior year). People can improve and often do.
