Why is it that The Beatles never included Helter Skelter on their greatest hits album?

Too heavy of a song for grandmas to enjoy?

1962-1966 and 1967-1970?

Those were originally released on LP. LP is limited to about 45 minutes of music on each record. Probably wasn't considered a relative "hit."

"Rain" wasn't on there, either, and Rolling Stone named that as one of the top 500 songs of all time.

Rain was FAR from a hit. It was a B-side only, never included on a studio album.

Peaked at #23

Higher than other songs on that Greatest Hits album, including non-album B-sides "Don't Let Me Down" and "Old Brown Shoe."

"Helter Skelter" was a relatively obscure (by Beatles standards) track, even after Manson and the book about the case. Was "Piggies" well known?

It was only after the Helter Skelter TV movie in 1976 that the title really became familiar to the mass audience. And even then I never heard the song itself played on the radio as a kid.

The compilations you refer to were released in 1973. Grandmas were hardly their target demo at the time.

And anyway the so-called Blue Album included "Revolution", which rocks just as hard as "Helter Skelter"

"Old Brown Shoe" was almost certainly included as a sop to Harrison to get him some extra songwriting royalties.

Because it was 1 of many fillers on that album. Still a great song though.

The Beatles music was not written or sung for grandmas. WTF are you talking about?

Actually one of my Beatle faves

A great cover by (Doug) Dillard & (the criminally under-appreciated Gene) Clark
