Can't be any worse than people that put mayo or kethup on red beans.. Yes, I've heard of people doing that.

I agree that vinegar is the not much different than any hot sauce, a splash of balsamic sounds good to me.

He says I'm "killing" a great meal and says the family is going to excommunicate me because: "You know we don't do that shite". So the question:

Do you or don't you use vinegar as a condiment on your red beans?

I don't, had a great aunt who used vinigar also had a cousin from Oklahoma that put mayonaise on his red beans. I've also had them served with chunks of carrots....I do not do this, worst thing i might do is open up a can of Blue Runner if time is real tight.

As long as you don't out freaking ketchup on it like my wife, a little vinegar is ok.

I never do it but imagine it would be decent.

Love me some pickled pepper vinegar. Put some on my black eyed peas last night, in fact.

It is indeed Mel's on old 13. He says it's much better than Mel's across from Lakeview park on 13. Bastard didn't bring me any tasso or stuffed pork chops but highly recommends those too.

Sometimes, I use a pepper vinegar as others have said. I use red wine in my ham stocks that I sometimes make for red beans, particularly red bean and andouille soup. Hot sauces are generally vinegar based and plenty of folks use that on red beans. Vinegar itself, whether red wine, pepper vinegar or in a hot pepper sauce, is common.
