I used sugar in it. Recipe calls for it. I thought about anchovy paste as well. Might add some to a little this evening and simmer it a bit. Otis suggested that a long time ago and the mental note I made to do that didn't surface.

It has sugar, which I would replace with a cup or so of wine. Needs a solid pinch of red pepper flakes, and I 'd add a little more herbs. Anchovies are a must for robust flavor.

You need to do what I say more often.

Cut the sugar. A little wine is better. Damn, Lester. You know how to cook down a sauce.

I didn't want wine in this dish. Most red gravies don't have wine. It was omitted intentionally.

It does not. I achieved the flavor I wanted. I've made this before.

It has a lot of basil and parsley. The ommission of other herbs is intentional, as well. This is a certain type of red gravy. It's not meant to be an herby peppery wino spaghetti sauce. I make other types of red sauces with more seasonings and wine.
I don't think anchovies are a must, but I will try it in a sample portion because I like that flavor. I don't want it in the entire dish, though.
You can make yours your way, though, and I won't give you a list of what you should do to make it taste good to me.

Yeah and I didn't even ask for suggestions. Next time, I will add a disclaimer that suggestions are not welcome and such posts will be RA'd.

That's how I took it. I also like to hear alternative ideas to dishes.

No changes to this one needed. I want the very recipe of my friends' parents' version. It's different from this one, but doesn't have any of your suggested changes. That part I know. They don't seem to recall all of it, unfortunately. They make a decent one, but even they can't quite get it right.
I make several different versions or my own. This one is a milder but more authentic tasting version.
I also have a very dry wit. Some people don't get it.

Thanks, GT. I feel like everybody must of had their corn flakes pissed in most of the day. I was just offering solid advice.
