18% as oppossed to 15% for 2 adults and 2 kids.

What's that? Maybe an extra $1.5?

I see what you're saying but I wouldn't be mad enough to post about it.

pretty much.

Its not the money, just that I was forced to pay 18% when service was really bad.

I post about it because it's tigerdroppings. I'm not even mad. Just think its a crappy policy.

I hate chain restaurants. They kill off the Mom and Pops.

I think the waiter/waitress either gratted themself before running your card on purpose or by accident.

Did you speak to the manager about this?

No because it wasn't really an issue I wanted them to deal with. Maybe she was having a bad night, or something. I generally never ever complain at a restaurant. I will just give them bad reviews online.

Yeah, it's not the $ but the principle

The main reason I started this was I was thinking about that Preacher who wrote "Why do you get 18% when god only gets 10%?" Which was stupid and obvious she didn't know the difference between a tithe and a tip.

I just thought maybe that is the new deal at that crappy place.
The dollar amount doesn't bother me. I get how servers get paid. But this is my issue. Had our food been right, and our drinks refilled (a cardinal sin to me not to refill at least once) and not had to deal with kids pouting over dessert when I made a point to tell her to make sure they both come out at the same time.

I probably would have given her 20-25% because when the bill is that low, whats an extra couple of bucks?

Just I felt it was crappy to be forced to pay for bad service. Though again, my idea of stiffing is 15% and no matter how bad, I would never ever tip less than 10% and I'm talking about horrible service. Because servers have to tip out and pay taxes based on % of order totals. I just can't do a Canadian Shuffle.

This was much more an OT topic than a food board topic?

Then my thread about where in La is Mecca got anchored.

What is up with that?

Anyway, now the food board knows I ate at Applebees, and all my FDB street cred is shot now.

Thanks a lot LA.

If you're cheap enough to go to Applebees for a birthday, you deserve what you get. (Not saying it was the OP's choice in this case)

Don't know why people are continually surprised when this happens.

Applebee's is the bottom of the barrel as far as chain restaurants.

I have been dating a girl for months. She is a divorcee with two daughters. This was my introduction to them. I let them pick, they picked CiCi's she vetoed it. Then they picked AppleBee's, I tried to Veto it but was overruled.

It is bottom of the barrel. I hate most national chains.
I do like the Mellow Mushroom because I was going there in College, and I like Copeland's because it's local and was my first job. But I would much rather go to a Mom and Pop eatery. I like Chef hopping. Like pick a month and do Besh restaurants that month or Adolfo Garcia (huge hi-hat fan)

I am going to start a thread eventually asking for kid-friendly dining spots. I so recall eating at Commander's a few years back and this table next to me had a really young kid and they made her chicken nuggets and french fries, but they were Commander's pretty.

The service isn't even the reason I wouldn't go back to applebees the nasty precooked and then reheated food is.

You know the answer is Monroe, right?

Sometimes, with kids, you gotta go where you don't want to go. You can ease into other places later on. I can see not wanting your initial meeting with your future step-daughters to be a stressed out meal because you forced them somewhere that didn't appeal to them.

So you don't mind being robbed so long as the amount is small.

basically yes.

I was going to tip 15%, but she knew service was bad. She knew she did a bad job. When the guy comes out and says " cut into your steak and tell me if its done" and we had no forks or knives or even napkins.(no I didn't order a steak, the five year old did, one always gets steak the other always eats the side salad)

I had to get napkins from the bar. I saw the guy ( a different server) rolling silverware and then we finally ( a fw minutes after we got our food) were able to eat. Then it was just bad.

Then no refills. Kids desserts came staggered. Restaurants time and hold food to get food out to the table at the same time. No one wants to watch other people eat while waiting on food.
All kinds of issues.
She deserved only 15%.

Its just the principle. I didn't want to make a fuss. She actually noted it first.

Was just something to blab about on my chosen semi-anonymous message board. While I'm stuck home sick.
