So Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life" comes on the radio and I can't remember a song that was so misunderstood as this one.

I mean everybody was singing this song because it's so pop-bubbly and they never knew it was about being addicted to meth.

Anybody have any other examples?

Blind Melon's "No Rain" is another that comes to mind. It sounds upbeat and has a fun guitar rift but it really is about being depressed and having nothing better to do but "watch the puddles gather rain."

All good examples, but this:

quote:

The Breeders Divine Hammer is about a dildo.

Is just hilarious.

Another example:

Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Posses Your Heart is about a stalker, not a lover.

I believe the Reagan Administration, and a lot of others, misunderstood the meaning of Springsteen's "Born in the USA"

Swimming Pools - Kendrick Lamar

Song is talking about alcohol abuse and how he almost threw his life away with it, yet people think it's some sort of drinking song about getting "turnt up" and whatnot

No doubt. So did a lot of Americans. You heard that song everywhere trying to induce nationalism, but it was about hard times.

I've always heard that Mr. Jones by counting crows was about Adam's dick.

No clue if its true but it makes the song funny as frick

You'd be amazed at the people that don't really listen to songs. They just hear them.

The Guess Who's American Woman, used by the GBFTL in their star-spangled halftime show. Somebody finally figured it out last year and wrote a butthurt letter to The Advocate.
