I thought you lost like 10 guns in Katrina and you own a Colt Delta Elite... Where did you get them all? You've really only purchased one gun through a dealer in your life?

This is all honest questions and not me being a dick at all. Background checks go for every firearms transaction.

They're actually thinking about doing background checks for ammo in bleeding-heart liberal states. It would take you like a whole day to get a gun just waiting on the phone if that happens. And if they have to staff more people for the check, guess who has to pay for it...

No problem here. I don't take it as you being a dick. I have told my stories about losing my guns so I can see where someone might be confused as to why I was uninformed of the background process.

My father died when I was 14. I became the owner of over 70 guns at that point as they were all left to me in his will, with the exception of a Walther PPK .380 left to my Mom. Over the years I sold off many of the guns that I had no real connection to or had sentimental value to me. When Katrina hit, I had 19 of his guns remaining. 16 of them were in a safe in my garage in Slidell, LA. All 16 of those were deemed to be as unsalvageable by 3 different gunsmiths. They had spent nearly 4 weeks after Katrina in a carpet-lined safe that went under 5 ft of flood waters. The combination of the saltwater wet carpet and 100 degree heat in early September caused severe pitting in the breaches and inside the barrels also. All of the long-gun's stocks were swollen and cracking. The revolvers were pitting around the barrel opening at the cylinder and the cylinders were all pitting inside. The feed ramps on the semi-autos were pitting as well as the barrels.

Anyway, I lost 16 guns in Katrina (see pic below). 3 survived due to 1 being on my hip (The Delta Elite) the entire time I was riding out the storm. Two others were in their own hard-cases which I had put on top of my bed before the storm. The bed floated up and down in the flood waters and everything on top of it was saved.

So before Katrina, I never had a need or a want to purchase a new gun. Since Katrina, I have only purchased one gun, a pistol, my XD9 that I bought in 2006.

I could swear that when the Brady Bill was enacted that only handguns were subject to background checks. But, it looks like I was mistaken on that.

That picture hurts every time I look at it. Once again, sorry you had to go through that and lose so much.

That's so bizarre! I bet you would've never guessed that would happen.

Well now you know. There are NCIS checks on every gun purchased legally from an FFL. For private sales, they are not necessary but Obummer and company want it to be mandatory. The only way this is possible is for national registration and you know what this leads to...

I would have never thought that the 12 foot levee that completely surrounds my neighborhood would be overtopped by floodwaters from Lake P., being that I was 2.5 miles inland.

So yeah, I was hoping that everything that I had picked up and put on beds or counters or sofas would have been safe. I'm glad that just those couple things were safe! Not much was safe from the 5 ft of water that made it over the levee. Took almost a week for the water to drain out (another reason why the guns were unsalvageable)

The two guns on the bed were a Ruger Super Blackhawk(customed-out) and a H&K model 94 9mm. I had brought them to my cousin's house where I was staying after the storm. The fricker sold my H&K for drugs. I don't speak to him anymore...

I seriously don't want to know what I'd do if this happened to me.

Let's just say he's lucky he lives 4 hours from me.

"Lives", being the key word in that statement.

You're a more patient man than I. I would've driven the four hours and kicked his arse seven ways from Sunday.

Of course.
Unless you are at a gunshow and then it's a free for all.

I recently bought a R700. In an out, 5 minutes. Same with the 11-87 a week ago. No checks, just the form saying I'm not a murderer.

if the dealer didnt make a phone call, he is doing it wrong.

If you say the dealers name here, one of the upstanding citizens will contact the ATF.

Yeah, that picture saddens me, also.
I recognize a Remington Nylon 66 on the far left of the pic. That was my first gun. I still have it. Hate that you lost yours....

That was the first rifle my dad ever gave me. I had it from the time I was 6 till 2005(23 years).

Recently found one in Lafayette and bought it off a guy for $180. Needs a good bit of tlc but I'll have it nice and pretty in no time and will be my son's first gun when he's 6.
