And if so, since when? Didn't the Brady Bill only require it for Handguns?

Are you dealing with a FFL? Then anything needs a 4473.

It's not me. I saw an FFL who's offering a rifle for sale and said a background check is required...

I know a 4473 has to be filled out for ALL firearm purchased but I thought only handguns were subject to background checks?

A 4473 isn't an automatic background check, right?

Gotta excuse my ignorance on this. I've only ever purchased 1 gun in my life, a pistol. I went through an FFL and obviously had to do the check.

I always thought rifles were exempt?

So if I buy a rifle from Academy or Walmart, I don't need a check, but if I go through an FFL a check is required for everything?

Nothing against the OP but this is the problem with the average Joe.

NEWS FLASH: We already have background checks for legally purchased weapons unless they are bought in a face to face transaction. If you buy a gun from a dealer, store,....ect. you have a background check done!

The rifle and shotgun I've bought from Walmart had to do the background check 10 years ago.

That piece of paper you fill out is the info they use to do background checks.

No, Academy and WalMart will have you fill out the same 4473 as the mom/pop gun store.

I had to get one for my shotgun a few weeks ago. They actually put me on hold for a shotgun.

Gun doesnt matter, you probably have a name in common with a felon. If it happens again, apply for a upin and itll never happen again.

Seriously, how can people not realize this?

It takes 5 minutes in google to realize that every gun purchase requires a background check.
