| 222 Questions (Posted on 2/21/13 at 1:22 am)
I have a Savage over/under 222 over a 20 gauge. I have killed many coyotes and even hog with the 222 caliber. Has anyone ever used the 222 to hunt deer? Is it legal? Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions!

It is legal. The law says any .22 caliber or larger centerfire cartridge. I do not own a .222 but I have killed quite a few doe with a 22-250.

I have no experience with this caliber. What are your impressions of it?

22/250 is a bad little round. Accurate and not much drop on the round. That bullet is traveling 4000 fps with hornady v-max bullets and it destroyes coyotes.

I don't own one but I have shot a coyote with an uncles. Looked like I shot it with a judge. Hit it in the neck at 50 yards and damn near tore the head off. Not sure what ammo he had loaded in it.

I don't personally hunt w/ 22 centerfire guns. I've seen a number of deer killed w/ them through the years, but it's not something I feel comfortable using.

Yes, in LA

The 222 Remington is a FINE varmint round. Think of it as a 223 Remington, but running a couple hundred fps less. Nevertheless, I wouldn't personally use a 222 Remington on purpose for a deer hunt.

It is in LA, but I don't think it is in MS which it looks like you are from.
