Was planning on trying it for the first time this weekend. I've seen it on every best fried chicken list, but I've heard mixed reviews. What does everyone here think about it?

It is very good. There are places better. The red beans are fantastic there.

Very underrated. I liken it to Guillory's.

Jacques Imo's actually has very good fried chicken. I'm not a proponent of the place in general but they deliver on Fried Chicken.

Heard good things about their fried chicken as well. Have you tried Willie Mae's? Could you compare?

The only way to eat fried chicken at Willie Mae's is with red beans and rice.

Jacques Imo's is much better than WM's but not as good as it once was

I believe Jacque-imos still uses Austin Leslie's old recipe with the evaporated milk. I like Willie maes but it is way overhyped - many places are better, as others have said.

That's a joke right?

Is Dunbar's the place in Loyola?

Finally picked up some McHardy's this past Fat Tuesday. Damned good. And the price is right.

IMO WIllie Mae's is a must eat chicken at some point in your life

Too often Willie Mae's gets pigeonholed as a place to only get fried chicken, which fuels some of the hype of the place. In reality, while the fried chicken is very good, I think the rest of the menu is better. For instance, the country fried pork chop with beans is a fantastic plate or two of food.

I've heard the same thing. Weird, though, as long as I've lived here, I've never been. Have to give it a try.
