PC vs Console: PC builds/upgrades since '05/'06 vs 360/PS3 generation.

For the PC folks, how many times did you build/upgrade your pc since the PS3/360 released? Plus, the amount of money spent per upgrade/build as compared to the one time charge of us console people?

But the graphics are better!!!!
My PS3 is just a Netflix box at this point to me. I only play games on my PC. My son plays games on the PS3 some.
And yes, the graphics are better on the PC.

Seriously, i really want to know. PC people just seem to want to make one argument. Better graphics.

my point is my computer serves a lot more functions than playing games and streaming video, so to compare the cost of the two is apples and oranges.

The real question. How many times did you watch porn on your PS3/360 vs your PC.

Your original question?
I imagine most people probably spend abou $400 to $600 every couple of years for upgrades.
Probably about $1200-$2000 for rebuilds every couple of years for people who want to have a top of the line PC

Built the one I am on in 2007-08 I think, spent about 800 and was about middle of the road at the time.
My crappy power supply went out and took some RAM with it in 09 and replaced the parts for 200.
Upgraded the monitor that I used for a TV for a time for 350. Bought random peripheral parts like keyboard and headphones over the years for about 100. Bought a new case in 2010 for 60.
I am on the low end of PC gaming right now but have gotten a 6 years out of it while being my main PC.
In it for about 1400, but many parts like the case, power supply, monitor, keyboard mouse headphones and speakers will carry over to the next build.
The ability to fix issues yourself is a huge deal in PC gaming. Many people I know have gone through 2 or 3 xbox's in during that time period.

I could give two fricks about which one is better. Prefer my console for gaming. PC is for business and writing purposes. The PC gamers are decent and mark their threads so I know I won't be interested in clicking on them. Why does there have to be a debate?

Which is still cheaper than $1400.

Sure is, but like others have said it has served me well in other purposes than just gaming and a watching video.

In 04 I got a $1600 laptop. I spent about $120 to upgrade the ram and hdd in it at some point. I built my current pc in Feb. 09 for around $1800 ($1600 after rebates). I upgraded over last summer by adding 6 gbs of ram, a 120 gb ssd and replacing my 4870 with a 560 ti. The upgrades cost me about $280. I'll probably start thinking about building a completely new system in a year. Although my i7 is glorious, so I don't know if I'll even need to.

Console gamers are usually poor and stay undergraduates.

I'm glad that there's more of a community for PC gamers here now, but this is officially old.
