Papa Johns Delivery Fee Disclaimer (Delivery Fee does not go to driver)

Ordered a pizza from Papa Johns and I just noticed this disclaimer on their site that says something to the affect of delivery fee is not paid to the driver so please tip for their great service.

If the delivery fee ($2) is not used to pay the driver then what the heck is it actually for other than it is their sneaky way of actually charging a different price than advertised.

Thoughts??

I think maybe it pays the driver for mileage but doesn't pay the driver a wage per se.

It is used to help pay their hourly rate, but not a tip.

Hungry Howie's delivery fee is $3.95. Ordering a small pizza and a coke will cost you around $15

Papa Johns dellivery fee is $3 where I am.

A large peperoni and 20 oz drink delivered costs me about $18 (after giving an additional $2 tip).

They're lying. Part of that 2 dollars goes to gas and paying the driver an hourly wage.

It's just revenue. It doesn't go anywhere. It hits the balance sheet and goes into some account. There's no way to say it goes to the driver, or pays for food, or electricity for the building. It's simply an up charge to make more money. Plain and simple.

Not shocked. There are "fees for fees" these days.

Papa johns drivers earn base hourly pay of 2.75. Each trip they make they get 1.50 from the delivery fee no matter the mileage.

Not saying you should. I'm saying that the fee that I pay should go to the driver in some form or fashion. Their website says something (paraphrasing) like delivery fee doesnt go to the driver so please tip them for their great service.

Exactly. It's used to pay for the employee to deliver your pizza. This isn't rocket science. The point is, the $2-3 fee is not a substitute for their tip.

I find it a lot easier to just pick up the pizza myself.

I was a Pizza Hut driver for a while. The delivery charge is totally a way to rip more cash from you. The delivery charge for us was $2.50. Drivers got $1.25 a run, but we use our own cars and pay our own gas that's supposed to cover $3/gallon gas today. So tipping the driver really helps.

So how the frick did they not charge delivery fees for the 25 years before this? Must've been not paying the drivers, right?

Its basically making per oolite aware they need to tip. They put it in there to help with turnover if delivery people I would assume. Or maybe their being nice, but I would guess its to keep drivers happy and decently tipped.
