I assume you are referring to the Alabama game, so I would ask the following:

Did we play well against South Carolina, Texas A&M, Mississippi State or Washington?

Oh yeah, that's me alright. Nuts the Pumper.

How well do you know the man? Do you guys hang out and talk about stuff a lot? Most fans can only get the most superficial idea of the coach, let alone the man.

While that is very true, its not like were short on talent. While you guys have been bitching about the coaches, they've put together solid class after class. I see no reason why we wont continue that trend.

Now, the schedule on the other hand?????

pretty sure the main question you have to ask about the 2013 team is can they play consistently good football?

2012 was such a schizophrenic team, with a good games mixed in with a few bad ones.

it's going to be a young secondary that will be tested early and often.

No it's not. You're going to have 4 guys in the secondary who have at played one whole year and another whose played on and off for three.

it was a weird season, losing TM7 was a blow, some 2011 hangover and several guys who didn't seem to care a whole lot since they knew they were leaving after the season. Personally I think this team will be quite a bit better than last.

I'm not going into extreme details because it wouldn't make a difference but

1. The defense took a step back last year and lost numerous players off that team including this being the most turnover and least experience at DLINE since Saban arrived, not only are we inexperienced with the 4 that normally rotate in we are inexperienced with the 4 that will be starting.

2. The secondary was torched every time they were tested last year, this isn't the strong point you think it is and it certainly isn't as strong as the past few years

3. LB's, won't change much

4. The offensive has to be assumed it will be the same until it isn't the same. Les has proven over his 8 years that the offense won't change much. Only 1 of those 8 years has the offense been comparable to other strong offenses around the country. 2005 and 2006 had potential but eventually Les will rear his head and lose a game 7-3.

5. We lost a record amount of Juniors, not Drake Nevis, Peterson, and Sheppard like everyone likes to compare too.............a record amount. Losing 11 guys is not losing 3 guys.

Not necessarily when they have been starting for a whole season, no.

Mingo, Montgomery, Simon, Reid, and Mathieu were sophomores in 2011. They did pretty well for themselves.

This.

The Jalens are both legit. Loston was really good last year and Martin, Eugene & Thompson will fill the other safety spot. Not to even mention a guy like Shaq White that is being compared to Tyrann coming out of high school. Plus Jefferson, Rashad and Brazil. Secondary is the least of our worries.

We should be better at every position except for d-line. However, in our scheme, so goes the d-line, so goes the team. If our younger players step up, then there is nothing stopping LSU from winning the SEC West next year en route to a National Title. However, if the drop off is noticeable, it could go from title contender to 8-4 real quick.

it was one of the main crutches of the defense last year.

that secondary gave up i think 4 or 5 straight 300+ passing games to end the season.

I'm not saying it's going to be a complete liability, but I'm not sure that it's gonna be a complete strength, either.

Cross your fingers and hope maybe, just maybe, the offense will click this year and we wont have to lean on our D all season.

I agree. Take care of TCU in the same fashion we did Oregon 2 years ago and it could really get this team's focus zeroed in. UAB and Kent will be perfect games to get the offense together before AU comes to Tiger Stadium. They still won't have the horses this year but Gus' offense will test every level of the defense. Then the big boy shows up. On the road @ UGA. This is the most important game on the schedule imo. We will most likely be underdogs and the hype around Murray will be crazy. Get this one and I'm swimming in the kool-aid the rest of the season.

This had a lot to do with Sam and Mingo basically disappearing after Bama.

think they disappeared vs bama too

so if that's the case, then our question marks at DL have to extend themselves the same way to the secondary.

I agree, we have great talent back there, but that's all for show if the DL can't get any pressure upfront and that QB is able to sit around and pick them apart.

Yeah he was fantastic in that game. It would have been nice if he didn't have to take a shite at the most critical point in the game though.

In most conferences you can look at your own improvements and declare you'll be better next year because of them. However, that doesn't seem to be the case in the SEC with most schools continually making strides to improve their program.

You have to keep improving just so you don't fall by the wayside in the SEC.

bama is suppose to be good, ole miss is going to be decent, florida is going to be better.

How exactly? They lose their only offensive weapon in Gillislee and still don't have a quarterback. Ole Miss will be pesky but we beat both Florida and AtM at home. People forget that what stopped us last year was offense and the defense was nowhere near as good as it was before it played Bama.

Offense
We'll have Hill and Blue, and an experienced QB. We'll be adding Dural, Brazil, D. Smith and hopefully Leslie into the fold, plus returners Landry and Beckham(plenty options). Also we have a OC coach that excels at using and developing passing skills with RBs and TEs.

Defense
As I said before, it tapered off drastically after the Bama loss. Martin looked real good to me and Micah was great on blitzes. Mills was great playing as a freshman and hopefully Collins has improved. We also have T White who is cut from the same cloth as Mo. LBs are way better than years past and should help the DL out

It's not as gloomy as people think.
