Why is this so bad? A shotgun is a fine weapon for home defense.
I get that Biden is anti-gun, especially relative to the leanings of this board, but I just don't see this as a "gaffe."

I'm no liberal and have voted conservative the last few elections but I agree with his statement. I'm a hunter and against assault weapons. I'm for an assault weapons background check overhaul (even a ban wouldn't bother me). I think a shotgun is the best possible home defense weapon there is and that's why have have a few.

You may not be a liberal, but you are an idiot. What is the purpose of any weapon? The purpose is to make an assault on your target. So every weapon is an assault weapon, including a shotgun. Before you make silly statements exposing your failure to comprehend the subject matter try engaging your brain and think about the concepts you are trying to convey.
The only differences that exist among weapons are their levels of efficiency and effectiveness at assaulting their targets.

Saw that.
His solution to an armed intruder is to fire the only two rounds in a weapon, into the air. 
Why not just have a tape recording of a gun going off and a plastic toy gun? That'll scare em!
