My friend who lives in Texas has had an incident in Baton Rouge and was cited for damage to public property. Being from Texas he decided to ignore the court date so now he has a bench warrant here in LA.

He wants to get a concealed carry permit in Texas but am I right thinking the bench warrant would show up in the background check?

People who show such lack of respect for the law shouldn't pack heat.

You better get that warrant business cleared up regardless of the CCP.

I know it sounds like one of those my "friend" threads but it honestly isn't me.

Guy could had an option before court date to pay a fine, take some type of anger class and have charges taken care of but was to lazy to do so.

Makes sense to me but this guy got held up at shotgun in his own driveway about 2 months ago and is starting to get paranoid about protection.

Am I the only one that thinks this might be one of those guys that continues to make poor decisions?

Just have him get a shotgun or pistol for home defense. Castle law will cover him, doesn't have to worry about the CHL.

Sounds like "your friend" has no business getting a CCP in Texas. Depending on where and who does the the CCP class he could be screwed.

I have probably had 7 bench warrants in my driving career. Just didn't feel like paying some and forgot for the rest of the tickets. In BR, all you have to do is call, pay the ticket, and pay an extra $55 for the warrant. Can all be done over the phone, and they mail you a receipt

What if you've been charged with a felony but not convicted, and have disposition papers to say as such?

Is Texas an open-carry State too?

Certainly not taking of the ticket was a poor decision but to get it all he did was punch the railroad crossing sign in Tigerland. Sign isn't on the ground, broken or even dented.

As for being robbed, guy was just coming home from work late one night and got followed by some thugs. He lives in a nice part of Houston Kingwood/Woodlands area. Police said it was the first case of armed robbery at a home in the area in 9 months.

Maybe he shouldn't get the CCL, but I don't think blaming the victim of a crime makes sense.

I guess it doesn't matter whether or not you believe that it is actually a friend or not. So just to avoid the I think he does protest to much accusations ill ignore it.

But I'll ask a question about me and aside from a traffic ticket or 2 I have a spotless criminal record.

I'm a LA resident looking to move to Texas soon so I was just going to get the Texas permit. Is it true though that Texas and LA have agreements so that a ccl from 1 state is good in the other?

I'd rather not waste a day driving to Texas to take their class if I can just take one in LA.

While he needs to get his shite together. In Texas he can legally carry the gun in his car "concealed" without needing a CHL..

If I understand things, that rule only means that a Louisiana resident can carry in Texas with a Louisiana permit. Once your residency changes, you must get a new permit in that state.

Some states honor others. There is a site for reciprocation (i dont have it handy) - but Texas does not honor Louisiana. Yet.
