Basketball, since we have not had one in ages.

I would take a Fooball championship over a Basketball AND a Baseball in that year. Pretty sure most LSU fans (and most college fans; definitely most SEC fans) would agree.

Pretty typical of your average lsu fan I think. Unaware that college baseball is pretty irrelevant on a national scale.
As much as I like it, that's reality.
I am consistently disappointed at the number of LSU fans obsessed with "looking cool" to the rest of the country, and letting what other people think dictate how they live their lives. We're LSU. Why worry about what anybody who isn't LSU cares about?
For that matter, for the vast majority of sports fans in the world, football, basketball and baseball are pretty much irrelevant compared to soccer. Would you trade a championship in all three for one Soccer championship, just because that's what's most "relevant" on a global scale?
If you like Basketball more than Baseball, that's fine. Just say so, and say it on the merits of your own opinion because that's all you need. Don't try and justify it with what other people think; they don't matter. You do. You're an LSU fan, so whatever you think is far more relevant than what every non-LSU fan in the world combined thinks. Just remember that.

quote:Interesting. So you took the question as offering some kind of magical "freebie", one that we could get no matter how bad that program might be right now, and without affecting other programs.
Basketball
Football has a chance to win it almost every year. BAsketball... Not so much.
A Basketball championship would be huge for LSU athletics
Taken that way, I'd agree and say Basketball in a heartbeat. It is by far the one most likely to need magical help to win one.

I hate that we claim that 1935 basketball title and not the 1908 title in football.

This. I love all sports. Despite this, I still use basketball and baseball to pass the time until football rolls around again. They are like methadone to football's heroin.

Pretty much everyone says "football first, then ___"
so, let's rephrase the question just a bit:
with football, basketball and baseball- if you could have LSU have a dominant season and win a championship in 1 sport, and have the other 2 remain at the level they currently are, which sport would you want to rise up and win it all?
To me, it makes it a lot closer. I still want football to win it all, but then- that's really where we are right now. That's why we all get so down when the offense looks bad, because then we think "aw shite, this could cost us in a big game". But we are still having big games, where the winner has the inside shot at playing for a title (had we beaten Bama this season, something we were within a minute to doing, we very well may have been the BCS champion). We all like our chances against Notre Dame in the big game.
Baseball too; people were bitching about our "collapse" against Stony Brook in the series to go to Omaha. Again, we look at who won, and say "we could have beaten them".
Basketball- it's been awhile since we've been been able to complain about collapses, or whether we could have done better. Maybe Trent's first year we wonder if a different bracket might get us to the Final Four (we did give Carolina their best game); and our Final Four game against UCLA was as disappointing a game as I've ever attended (the Fla fans in Indy were laughing in amazement at how bad we stunk it up). But other than that, it's been awhile since we've even been considered a significant hurdle for anyone good.
In this proposal, I can live with- stay top 10 in football, stay in the hunt for Omaha in baseball, and give me a 30 win, NCAA champ basketball team. I'd definitely prefer that to winning in Omaha and hoping for a late push to get into the NIT, and as for football- well, football is king, but then we all go back to sleep until August. I would like March to be exciting too!
