neckband model

What's the point of these if you still have to wear the strap over the top?

The strap doesnt have the band in it, the band goes behind your neck. The strap across the top is much softer. Really, its just personal preference.

Howard Leight DPAS.

I sell PPE and stuff. Good reusable plugs, should cost you a $1.00 or less a pair.

I don't like muffs myslef.

go to a audiologist and have custom ear molds made 40-70 bucks but they work great and if you want take some old apple earbuds and they can mold them in so if you want to jam out

I was gonna post this exact thing . Definitely the way to go . I was using foam disposables working in a plant everyday and have swapped to molded custom fits . The best investment you will make

Used to know an ol' Navy Vet from WWII. 60 years later, those battleship cannons still made his ears ring. RIP JM

jimbeam,
Like a number of previous posters have mentioned, I too have constant ringing in my ears from a couple episodes of indiscreet gunfire exposure superimposed on a long history of gunfire noises. Like they've already mentioned, always use something. I recommend plugs PLUS muffs. The combination does two things: 1. provides nearly an additional 25-33 db of noise reduction. 2. Blocks noise conduction through both the ear canal and through the bones surrounding the ears. I like the soft, foam plugs. The max noise reduction factor I usually see is 33 decibels. Nowadays, I mostly use electronic muffs. I have a pair of Walker Game Ear muffs, but I find myself using a pair of Caldwell electronic muffs more and more. The Caldwells cost about 1/8 of the Walkers. The Caldwells can usually be found on sale for $25-30. I bought mine from www.midwayusa.com. If using electronic muffs in addition to the plugs, just turn up the volume on the muffs so you can still hear the sounds you want to hear.

ETA: I use plugs and muffs. Nowadays, the muffs I use are mostly electronic.

Get the highest Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) you can find -- in either plugs or muffs.

The highest I've found in either are around 33 -- and the highest rated stuff doesn't cost much more than a lower rated product.

If you want to be totally safe (like when shooting at an indoor range) insert plugs, then put on some muffs. My ENT doctor says this is the "bulletproof" (no pun intended) way to do it.
