Boring off-season thread**

I saw a thread recently talking about how Garrett Hartley hit an escalator in his contract that bumps his salary up to over $2 mil for the year. I don't see us being able to afford a mediocre kicker at best for that price. Who do you guys want to see us do at kicker?

I know a local kid who has been getting tryouts with arena teams where he impressed and went to a regional NFL combine in LA. Kicked for 4 years at Millsaps and did well. Here is his Youtube page Maybe take a look at someone outside the league instead of the same old guys.

It's more about how he misses them. He's done it in some big spots as well.

They will bring in a leg or two when camp starts.
It's on Hartley to beat them out.
Don't see him being cut before that.

"Dude perfect" has potential. Does he have a kicking coach or is just wingin it?

Hartley needs to go
living in the past

so with our current cap woes we are gonna take a $600K cap hit to cut the #8 most accurate kicker in NFL history?

Past? 8 of 10 from 40-49yds and 5 of 6 beyond 50yds his past two seasons.

We need some Combine and free agent action bad around here

Missed some bonehead easy ones in pressure situations but made a few.

And making a load of chipshots because the offense sputtered inside the 20 isn't a testiment to his ability.

Find stats on how he measures up to kickers beyond 40 yards.

Hartley is the least of our worries and cap problems. Even with the escalator, he's in the middle of the pack for kicker salaries.

Maybe Brees can take over the kicking game and fill in on a few spots on the defensive side of the ball. That would sure take some of the heat off the cap problem.

Small sample size. Dude has about 3 years combined worth of kicks.

hartley is the least of our problems. he is top 3rd in the league as far as kickers go. he has also made a hell of a lot more than he missed in clutch situations.

also a clear indication of when stats don't tell the entire story. Hartly is unreliable in short-medium range. We have seen him miss too many 30 yard fg's to be considered a reliable kicker, especially in some crucial situations. just this season in one game he missed an easy maker and then doinked the upright on an extra point (though the ball did go through after the doink).

he is not good, stats be damned.

What about Kasay? I know he's old, but I was much more comfortable with him than with Hartley.
