It all depends on where you hit them. I've dropped hogs with one shot plenty of times. My cousin emptied an AR mag into one and didnt kill it.

They're strange and resilient beasts.

I've scared up some hogs and had a big boar run around 60yds into high grass/trees and it was blowing/snorting at me. It was standing its ground and I guess daring me to come closer. I didn't take it up on its offer and just slipped out of there.

I have a cousin that got charged by a big boar after shooting it with 3.5in buck shot. He shot it 3 times before he dropped it about 6 foot away. This thing was definitely charging him. Also know some guys that got chased in the water by some boars.

Have had very few charge me over the years, that includes trailing several big boars that were shot but not dead.

That being said I typically use an AR-10 in .308 or a 3.5" 00 or #4 buck and have yet to have anything do much after taking the business end of that.

The other one was with me squirrel hunting. Shot it 3 times in the head with squirrel shot while it was charging him. Last shot he had to move out of the way as it rolled by him. He was as white as a ghost. Took balls to stand his ground on that last shot.

I've had a similar experience while squirrel hunting, except I shot 3 times and killed 3 hogs with #6s. It's all about hitting what you need to.

Edit. They weren't charging me. I slipped up on them and ambushed em.

I've been charged only once and I'm pretty sure it wasn't really charging...it had no idea where I was when I shot it.

Seriously. Has anyone here been attacked or known someone attacked. Not talking about catching them after the dogs bay them up, but just attacked by a charging hog.

Not attacked, but chased when I was 18 yrs old. Big mean old bastard. Got pissed when I bounced a .410 slug off his head.

Was attacked 4 times in the dark this pasted Sept when I went teal hunting. Them bitches came at me within 5'. Even after shooting one with my shotgun, they still came back at me. I yelled like a bitch and that didn't scare them at all. This went on for almost a hour and I was by myself.

Other then that, everyone I killed traped always stayed on the same side of the fence of the pen never backing up. Bitches wanted my arse big time.

While I've killed a half dozen or so with my 9mm, it definitely isn't big medicine for them.

At least two of the ones I've killed were Boars >200lbs, and neither one folded and flopped, in fact one made it almost a mile, poor shot placement.

I cornered about a 300 lb boar that I'd chased for quite a ways on a bayou bank, when I went under the hill looking for him, I finally spotted him about 30 yards away looking at me under a limb. When I turned to raise my rifle he started under the limb, but I was already on him and a 55 gr TSX placed just over his eye left him kicking.
