I didn't want to jump into the replace bud selig thread or whatever, but I personally think that not having a salary cap is killing major league baseball. The Yankees buy their playoff appearances and what not.

Someone told me the NBA may consider to getting rid of theirs as well. If that happens, it will kill a lot of interest in the sport. The Lakers, Celtics, Mavericks, Heat, and maybe a couple others will run the league since they have all the money. It just makes things stale and boring.

Unamerican to do so, IMHO, but I hate how much sports stars make.

Salary cap can hurt a league

take for example NHL. there are teams who cannot afford to get to the salary bottom, if cap rises.
So the Rich can wait and pounce on those teams if their RFA become available.

Baseball should never get it, screw the pittsburghs of the league. they have been getting Major Millions from league in luxury tax money, and spent it on bonuses to the executives. Let them rot

You must have a different definition of "socialist" from the actual one.

I am not saying I believe them. I was just saying that it backed up my feelings that we need them. If I believed them I would provide a link for the link happy folks here.

And yeah that is a personal conflict for me. I am not for anything to limit business politically, but the MLB sucks now so what to do, what to do.

Yeah I can see the "socialist" nature of it, and definitely get the Un American feeling. But the non salary cap is hurting the MLB too. It has turned into a Yankees, Angels, Boston league. That is just shitty and boring.

I personally like the NBA salary cap structure the best. It prevents teams from having team salaries that are completely out of control like the Yankees but at the same time, it allows you to keep all of your homegrown players by paying them a higher salary than they would get from other teams.

The cap isn't hockey's problem.

Salary caps don't hurt business. They help the owners.

Who. Cares.

People use stupid buzzwords with negative connotations to get a rise out of the mouthbreathers. As if implementing a salary cap for a sports league will turn the country red.

Baseball has had more different teams win championships the last 30 years than the NBA or NFL. Since 2000, every team has been in the playoffs except the Blue Jays, Royals and Pirates. They don't need a salary cap.

I would like to see the nfl add a 4th to the cap and add 20 players to the rosters and make it mandatory that starters can't play special teams except for returners

This would help with injuries

Can't really say the Yanks much anymore. While they stil have the highest payroll in the league most of it is A-Rod and Jeter. They have said that they are shedding payroll. And of the teams last year in the playoffs I believe only the Tigers, Yankees, and Rangers were top in payroll dollars last year.
