I got "Mama's Silver Moon Cookbook" for Christmas and I want to try a recipe out of it.

Has anyone tried one? Would you recommend it?

Help...which one should I do? (NO DESSERTS)

I've got the cookbook arriving this week. We loved her cooking back in our college days '85 - '90. Can't wait to try the pork roast, red beans, green beans, meatloaf and pork chop.

I ordered one, but it hasn't arrived yet. If you make something, report back, please.

I have it and made some greens from it. Haven't ventured to the smothered pork chops or anything yet but did notice that at some points it will say season to taste, which I asse means salt and pepper. Not the most well written cookbook.

The amount of red beans she'd put on a pork chop plate was obscene...and awesome.

"Season to taste" could be whatever seasonings you like.

I got it and wasn't too impressed. The bean dishes don't contain a lot of meat and the cooking is not extraordinary.. The book also contains a lot of filler with her family history that honestly I didn't find interesting.

For nostalgia's purpose I can see the justification of the purchase but don't expect a blue ribbon recipe..

I've never eaten at the restaurant, but I didn't see too many recipes I'd bother to try. I'm very disappointed. The recipes lack seasonings and meat where it should be like in beans and peas and greens, for example. I'm sorry I bought it. With the raving over her food, I thought I'd get some good soul food type recipes, but they look bland. What was good at the restaurant.
