I've always meant to watch it.
Even went so far as set my vcr to record it. I was home at the time, but wanted to use the vcr since I had just bought it.
Turns out I forgot to put a tape in and it didn't record. My wife was not happy.

The premise of going ashore in West Africa to actually violently capture people is laughable to even the most amateur historian.

And someone could use that exact same reasoning for justifying referencing Inglorious Basterds in relation to WWII and it would be equally as absurd. Both of those movies are retarded to be viewed in any way other than shear fiction. They take place during a historical period is about it.

1) The willing complicity of black Africans in the slave trade is one of the biggest "secrets" (i.e., coverup) in the history of slavery.
2) There were some sadistic bastards the owned slaves or were overseers; however, the majority of slaveowners were businessmen who realized that slaves were a substantial capital investment that did him no good if they were injure or dead. Read Time on the Cross.

I didn't think it was a secret that Africans were complicit in the slave trade with the Europeans. It was taught to me in school, although not in much detail.
Of course most Americans are dumb so maybe it is a secret. After all 2.5 Men still draws big ratings.

Wow. People in here actually trying to lessen the disgustingness of slavery. Slavery is a deplorable part of human history, American or otherwise. The very fact of treating people as property is deplorable. It doesn't matter who did the selling either. If I sell my child into a human trafficking ring does that lessen the wrong?
Same people in here probably all thought any mistreatment ended when slaves were freed and refuse to recognize Jim Crow laws, segregation, redlining, etc. Any attempt to justify or lessen the atrocities committed against oppressed people is ignorant and simple minded.

There's slavery in Haiti. Black families sell their kids to other black families as laborers.
Freed blacks also owned slaves.
At no period in human history has there not been slavery.
Blacks in the south were treated better by their masters than whites in the north working in early factories. If they died they were replaceable. Slaves represented a considerable investment.
Of course, the Mandingo fighting in Django was absolute b s. -never happened.
Blacks captured other blacks in Africa and then sold them to the slave traders.
Where would blacks be of they'd never been brought to the US? What would our country look like? Those are the questions people know the answer to but won't say.

I'd say it is extremely well documented that without African help, slave trade numbers would have been drastically less.
Also, what's your overall point? Seems like a random thing to mention unless you're trying to downplay how horrendous slavery was.
