How close of a soul level do you need to be to someone else to be summoned.

Whats a good class for a first timer?
re: Dark Souls Discussion (gamertags in op)Posted by rmumph1 on 5/3/13 at 9:10 pm to LosLobos111
My game is glitching. I can't see soul signs and messages on the ground. Anyone ran into this problem?

I recommend the warrior, just to get your bearings. Actually if you're new, start a few of the classes. Play around with all of them, and see what works and what doesn't work. I just think, for melee, getting used to the long sword and shield of the warrior is a solid foundation to build upon.

Bump. Got the game a few days ago. No wiki help for me.
I'm mid 20's and i have read about items after I get them.
Apparently I've gotten some rare drops and my char is still alive. I've unlocked about 6 different area I think. I'm kind of lost as far as where to go next.
Npc hints at finding a repair box. Digging around for that I guess.

I've found a fire soul thing where the lift goes, haven't explored. Have unlocked basement, got twin humanity, partially explored.
Have not explored skeleton area near central monk guy.
Died fast near ice giants after running past badass npc.
I dunno if it's rare or not but I have a super strong boar helmet from the boar thing. I got the drake sword after randomly shooting tail. I got the black knigt greats word on a drop but the requirements are insane.

A few questions:
Scimitar or Long sword for my wanderer? I like both but not sure what to stick with.
I'm in the burgs right now and there's this undead knight dude that kicked my arse at the bottom of a staircase. That fricker chased me till the cows came home Is he beatable?
Should I use chain mail or wanderer equipment?
TIA

The best guy IMO is the pyromancer as he can immediately use pyromancy which doesnt need any leveling to be stronger and can still use good weapons.
Which weapon youchoose depends on your stats. Are you leveling strength or dexterity. Go look at those weapons and see how they scale. Scale= how they get stronger as you raise certain stats. They will have letters according to how well they scale. (S,A,B,C,D,E) in that order. A Scimitar is good for scaling Dexterity I believe and a long sword is more for strength. Do some research online though. Or you go along on your own and see what best fits your play style. This is your first go through so trial and error is the most rewarding way for you to figure these things out.
For your armor, it all depends on the weight/protection ratio. The lighter one will allow you to move faster and dodge easier but the heavier one will protect you more. Each one will protect you better against, fire, magic, lightening, poison, and curse then others so look at that too.
Have fun bud.
Oh, and Praise the Sun, motherfricker

I just killed the moonlight butterfly. Where should I head next?
Also, what's the deal with the divine ember? I gave it to the blacksmith.

You probably need to go to the Depths. It was the only time in the game I didn't know where to go. Go back across the bridge where the Hellkite Dragon is and there's a locked door there. Use the key from the Bell Gargoyles and voila.
Divine ember lets you create divine weapons that keep skeletons dead

Found the gargoyles. Stuck there until I figure out the fire breathing one.

Thanks, that's where I was thinking of going next. Just got the blacknight great sword, is this weapon viable at some point?

Its very heavy and slow to swing so only really viable on boss battles. I use the Black Knight Sword +5 and its is amazing. Slices through enemies like butter.

I'm still rocking the drake sword. Would the black knight sword the next weapon upgrade for me?
