Not a ref, but this friend of mine told me a funny story about reffing a small kids game.

Said this kid was on a breakaway and just looking at the ball at his feet when he ran into the cross bar with his forehead and split his head open. NOW thats funny.

I had a similar experience in my high school playing days. We were supposed to play a very bad Demopolis team that were eventually mercy ruled 10-0. Everyone was going to get a chance to play a lot. One of the guys on my team barely ever gets to play. We were warming up before the game on a side field. There were some goals that had low crossbars. One thing lead to another and this guy banged his head against one of the low crossbars and bust his head open. Needless to say, he didn't get to play.

Yeah, we all felt bad for him. He was one of those guys that tried hard, but just didn't have the skill.

Being the Assistant ref on the parents side line was the worst. Parents are douches and they obviously didnt know shite about soccer.

Our goalie one year got a red for punching a kid. Sad thing is, he didn't even make good contact, and he ended up breaking his hand in the process.

Also, I had a kid from Destrehan tackle me (I'm talking both arms around the waist, drop your weight to the ground and spin) when I was on a break away. The ref didn't even card him. Then he fouled me again from behind and he got a yellow. Destrehan was by far the douchiest team I ever played against.

A goalie from my select team used to purposely punch people in the face on corner kicks. It was wildly entertaining.

In high school I high kicked a kid in the face breaking his nose (on accident). The ref was running over to me pulling the red card out of his pocket. At the time I freaked out because there was a good bit of blood and immediately apologized to the guy, leaned down extending a hand to help him up, and asked if I could run and get him some water or something. He responded by yelling "frick you arse hole" and swung at my face. He missed by an inch, if that. The ref arrived on the scene with the red card out. He stopped, looked at me then the kid, and told the guy on the ground "go clean yourself up son, you're off the field." He got the red, I didn't even get a yellow.

probably weirdest thing that happened was in high school with a running clock where the game is over when it hits zero. with 3 seconds left we got fouled, a player got hurt, and the ref stopped the clock while the ball ran out for a corner. we score on the corner to win A PLAYOFF GAME (between good teams) and all hell breaks loose. enormous benches clearing brawl after the buzzer with tons of punches thrown and landed and just thuggish shite that is fun as hell to remember.

Goalie on my son's HS team got body slammed into the net by an opposing player. After untangling him and while he was being helped off the field (he didn't return), the ref booked him.

My HS coach once got thrown out for calling the ref a prick.

Played Shreveport United/CABOSA my senior year of club in the worthless 3rd place/consolation game.

We went up 5-0 at the half. Four players sent off. Game ended 8-4 or something wild like that.

ETA: Lost a 9-6 game to U-High once. Baseball-score edition.

Goalie on my team makes a save, drops the ball, dribbles it coast-to-coast, and scores easily.

We won 8-0.

We were playing in a tournament in Birmingham. The opposing goalie grabbed the ball and everyone started jogging back up the field. The goalie kicked it and it was going right to one of our players that still had his back turned about 35-40 yards away. He turns around just before it got to him and side volleyed it before it hit the ground. Ball goes over the keeper and into the goal.

One of the most amazing play's I've seen.

My team was hanging around after a game because our club's team an age group above us was playing next. A single player from our opponent stuck around to try to fight our entire team. We were just like, "lolwut." Then, he moves from that to hurling racial slurs at a couple of our black players. He almost incited a riot and had to be escorted away by security.

Played a team from Chicago about six months after hurricane Katrina whose idea of talking shite was calling us all poor because we were from New Orleans. That was just weird

Watched my brother's team leave the field after their opponent Shakhtar'd them after an injury

My JV team was supposed to play at Oak Mountain. We got to the field and their girls team was warming up on the field. Our coach thought he scheduled a game with their JV team, their coach thought he scheduled a game with our girls team. We already drove and hour and a half to Birmingham, so we decided to just go on and play the girls team.
