Cub Cadet vs John Deere riding mower

Any advice before making my purchase? I'm stuck between these two.

I'm looking at the D105. I'm just afraid that with the automatic and having a 17.5hp motor,it won't be powerful enough

John Deere as long as it comes with a honda or kohler engine

Yeah the Kohler engine will run forever and you will never have any problems. However, the John Deere mower itself is a POS if it's the Lowe's/Home Depot version.

The big box store version of JD is made by American Yard Products, so its the same thing as a Big box Husqvarna, or a craftsman.

The Cub Cadet is MTD, same as toro, white, troy built, Yard Man and a ton of other "house brands"

Basically its all the same quality, just make sure you get a quality engine (Kohler, Kawisaki are best two IMO) and then google a specific model to see if there are any know issues with the transmission, deck, or rear end.

The reviews for Cub Cadet w/Kohler engines only complaint was the deck belts falling off. But who knows that problem may have been corrected

I've had both. I bought a Cub Cadet from Lehman's farm in Thibodeayx a few years ago and had all kinda problems with the neutral start switch to a point where I asked them to sell it for me.
Have a JD I bought from Lowes and I cut the four yards around my house with it. Great machine. I send it to Sunshine Equipment yearly for pm/blades, etc

If you decide to get a Deere, get it from the dealer. DO NOT BUY THE LOWES LINE OF JOHN DEERE.

All depends on what kind of use it is going to get. A JD from Lowes will cut msot residential yards for years with no issues.

Go to a JD dealer. Stay away from the box store versions. They are POS.

My Cub 1050 only has 3 spring lock pins to pull to remove the deck... easiest by far of any I've ever owned.

Look at Hustler.

Built like brick shithouses (unlimited lifetime deck warranty), super-simple design, and never breaks, yet half the price of most commercial grade mowers (because they don't advertise)

Might be better to post your budget. Someone might know of something better...

ETA: How much land are you cutting?

I bought a Cub Cadet LTX 1040 a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it so far.

I would also recommend buying it from a dealer. I got mine from Watson Lawnmower and they lubed/greased the fittings, checked the oil, straightened the alignment, checked air pressure, etc. when I bought. You're not gonna get that from a box store. They're just gonna roll it off the pallet onto your trailer.

Depends. If you get a JD from a JD dealership..then that by far. From a box store like Lowes or Home Depot....flip a coin. there is a difference in quality from dealer and box store ones.
