re: Poll: Jindal Among Nation's Most Unpopular Governors

No, I'm saying that we have no way of knowing if we don't use the same metric on both. I'm not providing a link. If you want to know about Northshore High look it up. It's an "A" school. I can't compare that letter grade to private schools because they don't get graded. The question is, why are you and the governor so afraid to judge private schools usuvg the same metrics by which you judge public?

I'm not opposed to usuvg the same metrics. It's a waste of time though. I'd much prefer public schools usuvg the same metrics as private schools. P4P is the metric. P4P is the measure. Allow school choice.

Here's a novel concept.
Forget vouchers for now.
Forget testing and grading.
Subject public schools to the metrics of their private counterparts.

Allow total school choice within the public system. Let money follow the student. Allow admission criterion as with private schools for nondistrict applicants. Reward bonuses to schools with more applications than availability. Similarly dock schools with more availability than applications.

People pretty much grade them with their pocketbooks. Bad private schools generally don't last long.

I have absolutely no problem with total choice. I have a problem with the current voucher system because its not fair to judge public schools that recurve public funds one way, and not judge private the same.if that idiotic testing and letter grade system is done away with for BOTH I have no problem. Here lies the issue, if public schools are allowed selective admission as yiu suggest and private schools still have selective admission, what becomes of the children who nobody wants to admit? But I will say I have no issue, argument wise, If public schools are allowed the same exclusivity as private, but morally I know that would never work.

And schools like Northshore aren't the problem. Their students won't qualify for vouchers. Only students in C, D, & F schools, with D & F getting priority.

Of course, that doesn't stop the teachers' unions and government school board reps from telling everyone all public schools are going to suffer and lose money. I live in a "B" school district, yet you'd be surprised all the parents and teachers who think money is going to be taken form this school to fund vouchers. Not true, yet the union goons and lifetime school board seat occupiers never let facts get in the way of maintaining their control.

They'd attend the same school they do now

Wait. So, the public schools are forced to accept these undesirable kids. They must still use metrics to judge performance like you suggested earlier? Thayer hardly fair. A month ago I read about a child bringing a gun to a middle school in Baton Rouge. It was the second time that thug had done so. Private schools won't admit him. If everyone gets a voucher, there are no more public and private schools. Therefore, why should a former public school have to accept trash like that but schools that were formerly private do not? That's hardly fair. If we get rid of attendance zoned and everyone gets a voucher, why force some schools to accept thugs but not others?

The way Jindal's voucher legislation stands, those schools (private or public) who choose to accept vouchers MUST accept whichever student presents said voucher to them.

Episcopal School of Acadiana's headmaster was quoted in the local newspaper last year saying they were unsure if they would accept vouchers because there was an admissions test that prospective ESA students were required to take before acceptance.

P4P? Absolutely.

The 2nd time?
Really?

So if your daughter happens to attend that school, you're perfectly fine with her having no choice whatsoever to attend elsewhere?

THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

Hit schools in the pocketbook if they make jackass decisions like not prosecuting and incarcerating gunwelding thugs, and there will be a set of near immediate solutions.
Approach it as just another day in the BR School District, and the problem will fester, as it apparently has.

There should be direct financial accountability.

10-20% of the students in failing public schools are the problem. The neighborhood schools abs sire to obtain an education and will actively prevent others from learning. 90% of a school's time and resources are spent on these students
I'd propose treating HS truancy and/or behavior issues with incarceration in a minimum security bootcamp-style facility.

This would dramatically improve the failing schools in the state overnight. Add in a return to neighborhood schools and separate vocational track for high schools and Louisiana public schools would be right on the right track without vouchers.

Sigh. I was speaking about nc tigahs hypothetical in which all students get vouchers. In his system, the criminal students would still attend the public schools but private schools would have selective admission. I can't understand that because he wants them to take the tests private students take but they would still be expected to have the sand results. That's silly. Why can't people understand that if schools can choose their students they will always have better results.

Bobby Jindal is a great man.....unfortunately America has no need of great men. Most Americans prefer shallow, narcassistic liars who tell them what they want to hear. In the end.....we will all suffer for the choices we have made....and it won't be pretty. Meantime the sharks [as in our enemies] continue to stalk.....waiting until the right moment when BHO has sufficiently weakened us morally, economically and militarily...then they will administer the "Coup de grace". History is full of examples of cultures that collapsed when the people selected vile men as their leaders.

But decent men like Bobby Jindal......America have no need of them.

I'd vote for Landrieu over Jindal.

She cares more for the State Louisiana than he does.

This is some funny shite. I sincerely hope this is sarcasm. Bobby Jindal is ANYTHING but a "great man."

Not if all kids get vouchers. Let the public schools go private.

But let's just say everybody got vouchers and the only thing left in government schools were thugs. That would be great wouldn't it?? Great because the people that would like to send their kids somewhere now besides the public schools with the thugs will get too?

Are you people saying you want everybody to suffer because there are thugs in schools??

Sounds to me like instead of opposing vouchers you should be screaming for the freedom to kick them out and to quit passing them from grade to grade like you do now.

The entire problem is this mentality that we must teach to accommodate the worst students. How the public school supporter let that thing dominate their schools is beyond me.

That is exactly what I am proposing. Get the thugs , the 10-20% that ruin schools out. There is no need for transporting kids all over town to private schools using vouchers. The schools in these areas will work if the deviants are moved. Functioning community schools are an important part of a community.
