My hope is that having our offense back on track -(which was the best offense in NFL history, prior to Payton's suspension) will give Ryan more opportunity to be aggressively creative with his defensive schemes.

As mentioned before, Ryan likes to play to his defenders strengths which will be an immediate upgrade over Spags "square peg in a round hole" defensive scheme.

we also have to wait and see what will happen in free agency. We may end up making a few cuts...I don't know.

then after that you still have the draft.... I'm not that excited because we haven't always had the best turn out with our recent first round picks(there is no sure thing we will use the pick on a defensive guy either) but you still have to wait and see how it all pans out.

A few reasons for hope - Ryan has been in bad situations the past few years (Cleveland & injury problems at Dallas).
I assume that Payton wants the Saints to win next year more than anyone in the universe and he picked Ryan.
We had the worse defense in the history of the NFL last year, a suspended head coach, GM, interim head coach #1 for 6 games, two interim head coaches during the year a new defensive coordinator who was unable to communicate with Payton all season and we still finished 7-9.
If Ryan can get the defense at least as good as 26 or 27th in the league, I'm buying a heavy coat and snow tires for that game in New Jersey in Feb.
And finally, LC22282 message sums up the situation and I think we'll have a least a little luck getting a couple of key players.

I'm really not a fan. Never got the hype. His defenses have always been below average, at best.

Just gonna have to roll with it though.

They were. People are just using the fact that they beat the Saints that one time to make it seem like they were better than what they actually were.

his defenses in cleveland and oakland were horrible

he did better in dallas, with a lot of talent to work with. And even then, they underperformed.

He's a loudmouth whose defenses haven't been any good through his career as a d-coordinator. Hope that helps.

Go back to the rant? Coming from someone who has "tiger" in your screen name, "LSU" on side of your screen name, "lsu fan" under your avi, and list your location as "death valley" lol.

First, what I said is pretty much dead on. Second, I was just messing with the person who started this thread. But my apologies, I didn't realize Rob Ryan's girlfriend posted on this board.

Rob Ryan reminda me of 2010 when we lost to the Browns 31-17. He had his defensive lineman standing upright out of a stance when the ball was snapped. They picked Drew off 4 times and we had maybe 50 yards rushing. I hated Rob Ryan that day.

I heard Laron Landry's nickname was also "The Laundry". That makes this even that more special for me.

as a cowboys fan I can tell you that he is what he appears to be. a lot of bluster and cussing on the sidelines, but look at the stats--the defense rarely gets turnovers, its overly complicated and good quarterbacks shred it every time. he takes a ton of risks, has 10 or 12 men on the field way too often and overall just leaves too many gaping holes in coverage.

Good luck with him. I would honestly rather have Greg Williams

It's hard to get excited about him. I really want to like him now. Please, if at all possible, sell me on him.

Sean Payton came here and turned the organization on its head. Then brought in a loud mouthed jackass that most people hated on and we ended up winning a superbowl.

Sean Payton was suspended last year, and since he has come back he is once again fricking shite up, firing people, setting us on the right path, and has once again brought in a loud mouthed jackass that people are hating on.

Bring on 2013. The Saints are coming. And Hell's coming with them.

I think the difference is that Payton had a lot of hype around him, and Williams had a proven track record of coaching great defenses. Rob Ryan not so much.

Either way, I think just switching to a 3-4 in general will be a huge step in the right direction for this team and he won't really be expected to make the defense number 1 or anything.
