re: Did MJ have the greatest supporting cast ever?

So how is the argument made by the OP's friend even relevant? It's a dumb argument.

re: Did MJ have the greatest supporting cast ever?

Great teams win championships, so of course he had a nice supporting cast. But, not even in the realm of greatest ever.

The most shocking theme is MJ never played with a great 4 or 5 on those teams. Horace was a really nice/good player, but not near great. You really couldn't argue Horace was ever top 5 any year at the PF position, much less ever in the conversation of elite big man. Also, it's when the league had legit big men. It's hard to name championship teams w/o a good to great big man. Yet, MJ did it 6 times.

*The late 80s Pistons, come to mind not having great Big men.

Horace Grant was pretty solid for some of those Bulls teams.

Probably the most hyped, over rated player in NBA history.

I would agree with this. Grant was solid, but he only made one all-star team and I'm pretty sure that was after MJ retired the first time.

If you look at the rest of the big men on those Bulls teams, there's Cartwright and Perdue, then Longley and Wennington...those guys did little more than fill space.

Again Nice players, weren't great players. Maybe, your definition is different.

ANYONE who thinks a TODAY NBA player makes their team better compared to those three are just plain STUPID.

To say LeBron doesn't do that is just ignorant. Check out the supporting cast that he had when he took the Cavs to the Finals. Ilgauskas is the only one to even go to an all-star game in his whole career.

Horace Grant can no doubt be put in the "good to great" big man convo (on the good side). Bosh's impact on offense is about equal to Grant's impact on defense.

He had a good one..but never a great supporting cast.

Now Hakeem's first championship...he had probably the worst supporting cast ever. And his second was probably the second worst...but at least he had an over the hill Drexler

Larry Bird easily had the strongest supporting cast among the all-time great players.

Curious how they all fared/would have w/o Bird. Bird - like Magic - created that synergy and made the players around them so much better.

Magic had a HOFer...on his own, Kareem. And still Kareem was nearing the end toward the Lakers back-to-back titles.

But anyone suggesting Worthy is an all-timer w/o magic is insane.

It must have been nice getting the ball two feet from the rim on every fast break.

The rest of the Lakers were Byron Scott (good straight-up jump shooter from the corner on wide open kick-outs from Magic on fast breaks and that's about it, goggled white boy Rambis, Cooper (great defender, atrocious offensive guy) - AC Green - nice rebounder, not a lot of anything else...Mychael Thompson.

Magic made the music from that orchestra. Worthy is the only player (absent Kareem) who can be talked about as great...and he was a flying to the basket layup machine courtesy of Magic.
