Not sure if I should post this here or on the politalk. Pretty interesting concept that I agree with as it helps neighbors connect and discuss issues. I relate it to how TD.com is fairly regionally centered and information from events in this region quickly gets distributed. This website will allow neighborhood watches and general "looking out" for one another to be more streamlined. I'm a little worried about the busy body with nothing to do but complain and escalate minor events to the police. Hopefully this will allow one another to be more courteous.

My neighborhood has a FB group.

In the first few years of Facebook it was heavily community based. One could freely view the profiles of anyone at the same university.
You could post your class schedule, and easily find someone to exchange notes with.
Facebook quickly grew beyond being a small community into a global network. I suppose it could be nice to have a community based option on the web. However, many groups have a page on FB that handles this role.

Sure but like LinkedIn, it doesn't serve the workplace well combining your social life with work. I hardly ever use facebook other than for family and college friends.

I used that to sell my books. Instead of getting like 25% back from the book store. I would message people in that class that showed up on facebook the following semester and get 75% of the book cost back.

Its pretty interesting when you remember some of the features like that which suddenly disappeared or morphed into something else.
The class schedule thing was great. I don't know how Facebook replaced it/kids communicate in classes with Facebook now since I graduated in 2007

We have a neighborhood site on Nextdoor. I hardly bother with it as its really nothing more than neighbors griping about CDD or HOA issues. Like many websites people throw courtesy out the window when posting on Nextdoor. The difference is that with Nextdoor its fairly likely you'll encounter the person and we've had a few incidents where police had to get involved over disputes which began on the website.
We have learned about break-ins and petty crime which is useful. A lost dog was quickly found when someone posted a picture of it on the site. Some good and some bad with the site for sure.

A good portion of people just love to bitch, and social sites have encouraged them by about 1,000 times.
