Confused about ObamaCare...

If someone's hours are reduced to part-time or if their job does not provided insurance, they will be forced to purchase their own insurance? The cost of insurance will be spectacular; so, who wouldn't just pay the penalty of $2,100/yr?

re: Confused about ObamaCare...

I've wondered this as well. I guess my question is whether or not $2,100 is the maximum penalty per person or family. With 5 in my family, it's still less than my insurance premiums per year if I have to pay that for each person.

This is what you need to know about Obamacare;

1) it's loaded with rules specifically designed to let gov. control nearly every facet of your life

2) lots of people will be exempted from having to pay the penalty, but you aren't one of them.

The penalty for a person for the first year (2014) is $95.

I haven't read anywhere that a person making $8.00 per hour for 28 hours a week will have to pay the penalty.

for what it is worth.. consider the source
quote:

Starting in 2014, most people will have to have insurance or pay a "penalty deducted from your taxable income". For individuals, penalty starts at $95 a year, or up to 1% of income, whichever is greater, and rise to $695, or 2.5% of income, by 2016. For families the tax will be $2,085 or 2.5% percent of household income, whichever is greater. The requirement can be waived for several reasons, including financial hardship or religious beliefs. If the tax would exceed 8% of your income you are exempt, also some religious groups are exempt. That tax cannot exceed the cost of a "bronze plan" bought on the exchange. While some states, including Alabama, Wyoming and Montana, have passed laws to block the requirement to carry health insurance, those provisions do not override federal law.

1) CLAIM to be against Single Payer System and to fully embrace the private sector insurance system

2) Make convoluted rules with "penalties" and exemptions that make it incredibly difficult to understand / administer

3) Determine that the "private sector system" isn't working

4) MORPH INTO GOV CONTROL / SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM

A cynic would claim the failure is baked in and the gov is destined to take over.......but, only a cynic would think it.

Right now, I do. I think. I'm in my late 20's, low income. Going to law school next year which will mean no job. Do I qualify for free Obamacare? Currently I pay $235 a month for health and dental.

The question is when do you need insurance to avoid the penalty? Do you need insurance all 365 days, 183 days, on Dec. 31st, or when you file your taxes?

Will it be like those who buy car insurance the month they need to renew their drivers liscense, then let it lapse?

Unions do not get a pass in 2014.

They got a pass (waiver from certain components) in the early years, only because their insurance was capped at $50,000 annual benefit. (Most fast-food rest. have cap of $20,000). The ACA mandated $750,000 cap, and many unions (with only a handful of employees) and businesses were granted temp. waivers.

Fish- it appears you will qualify for medicare when you have little or no income in 2014.

You will need to check the exchange when it comes online this October 1.

I wonder how the hospital is going to react when the first patient shows up who says, "No, I don't have insurance. I just pay the tax for not having insurance." Or better yet, that person shows up at some doctor's office. What level of reimbursement do you think they will expect to get for treating that patient?

Same as if you show up at a doctor's office now without insurance. They run your credit card.
