I picked a couple of past players and scanned their game logs and noticed that this LeBron streak, while very impressive, isn't the best ever.

Here are LeBron's stats over his last 5 games:

The first player that came to mind that played the forward position who could have put up similar number was Charles Barkley.

Here are some that I found

Then the next name that came to mind was Karl Malone.

Here are some I found:

Then I though for sure that Larry Bird had to have had just as good of a streak

What about MJ?

Surely Shaq was able to put up numbers like that?

Did people forget Kobe had a stretch where he went off for 43, 50, 60, 50, and 65? All while shooting pretty efficiently above 50%.

I mean kudos to Lebron and all; it is certainly impressive, but the media is making it out to be this historical, all time great "streak." I guess I'm just not picking up what they are putting down.

But after looking at the numbers, maybe it is, as far as shooting percentage goes. Barkley best it a few times, but Barkley probably wasn't taking as many jumpers either.

The problem is these numbers don't take into account contexts. Things like pace, vastly improved defensive schemes in today's era, positions of players are important context for these discussions. I'm not saying this streak is the most impressive ever, but just posting stats isn't going to get it done.

LeBron is taking less than 16 shots a game. Those guys were taking 20-24 shots a game and maintaining those averages in a MUCH MUCH MUCHHHHHHH more physical era of the game.
