All good, keep sending out whatever while for a higher lvl they may just be a decoy someone around your lvl or lower will appreciate it greatly. Like you do when receive lvl 5/6

See I disagree, I always (unless it is an easy base) use my clan troops and for many lower lvls using clan troops is important. So why not request as often as needed?
Plus what if it is easy to manipulate like sendin g troops?
If I send you 4 giants it will count as 20 troops sent I believe anyway instead of 4 because they take up 5 spots each. So depending on what you are receiving can alter how many you've actually gotten.

I only say that because if I'm not donating but also not asking, should I be kicked? I just want to be at the party, I don't want to play any of the games though.

Well a lot of newer/lower individuals are probably not donating because people make a fuss over their lvl troops. lol
I say donate always no matter the lvl, a lvl 1 giant can be useful as bait

How do you get 10k dark elixir without having the mine, most I can generally raid from someone is 250

I have the mine and I'm still trying to figure this out. I have had the dark elixir for weeks now and I'm at like 4000 DE. The most I have ever seen someone have is 900 DE.

Lucky I'm running 2 drills now and my storage can hold 20k but it is a pain in the arse.
Most from raids I see is 700-800 but those are usually well fortified so I have to use lightening spells to gain 400-500 and then surrender because I would have no shot at getting to storages.

Well like any, it gives you options to buy gems and then use the gems to purchase elixir if you so choose
