Are the jumping hogs worth the dark elixir cost?

i've had some given to me and i wasn't that impressed with them
although i only had 1 so with a bunch they could be effective.

It doesn't seem like people are getting raided with them much...
I always have a few minions when I raid, I have a new favorite strategy with them.. Drop archers in view of barb king, barb king attacks archers drop minions watch 2 minions kill barb king.

I hate them... Used 6 to raid earlier and they refused to jump, I think I had a bad bunch

no. they're just a glorified barb. not worth it till you upgrade them more IMO.
minions on the other hand are pretty awesome. been using them as an alternative to regular archers. helps save elixer

How in the hell do ppl make enough money to upgrade all of their walls pieces so high and still upgrade everything else? I am convinced most high level people by gems with real money.

It isn't bad, just time consuming...
When I went from pink to purple every raid went to a wall piece. So if I raided 15 times I was usually able to upgrade 6-8 pieces of wall at a time.
Then having lvl 11 mines I wake up to 31-35k each in gold a day as well. This helps with walls, but right now saving for my second X-Bow (3 million) and then will worry about walls again.

Is this game really that fun? I've never played but I see a bunch of people talking about it.
