Rivers' playing time must be limited by his lack of talent!

Can you imagine the shite Monty would catch if he played Davis for extended minutes and the kid developed a serious problem with the foot/ankle?

To be fair, Rivers outplayed Davis last night by a ton.

Davis was getting handled on the boards and looked uniterested on the court.

Rivers came out attacking and made plays on both sides of the ball.

Hazelnut,

Overall, this is the kind of stuff that keeps me on board with Monty. Digging deeper into the numbers gives me even more encouragement and a little worry.

Looking at Davis' average mpg is misleading. He played longer minutes before the stress reaction. They ramped him up over a few games, but he played horribly in long minutes (over 30 here). Since then, he rarely if ever goes over 30the and gets under 20 about as often.

Also, his FT rate and FT% are down since then by a good bit, and his FG% is down, but not by as much.

There's been a drop, and it was abrupt and associated with his foot injury at least in terms of timing.

Yea the avg MPG may be a little misleading. It was something to take note of though. I think it's very reasonable to think his minutes have dropped because of his lack of bulk and because of his injury. And it makes sense that him playing long minutes down low with his size would hurt his play. People forget he's 19 years old and he's facing some guys who have 30+ pounds on him. He's gonna take a beating.

Lets just hope he can add some bulk in the offseason and that this injury wont be something that hurts him long term

Agree with all of that.

Expecting greatness this season is nuts, and ut's better to be safe than sorry with a prospect like Davis, but he's exceeded my expectations, frankly.

THANK YOU. I could give a frick less about ROY awards, just keep our future healthy. He'll have a whole offseason to improve and build muscle.

Some of you need to stop acting like we're doing ANYTHING this year, and just have fun with it.

While I agree expectations were high for this team, I can see annoyance in using this whole year as a try out for future and not really trying to win. Let's try this line up out to see what happens can make one wonder what if we played best lineup in 4th most of time instead of some.

Month and Dell must know their job is secure for awhile to throw away a season in regards to w/l

Monty is gonna start having a few seasons where the record actually approaches .500 before I start anointing him a god like the rest of this board.

What exactly is he saving Davis from? This guy is always going to be skinny, that's just how he's built. To some of you its like it's gonna be an off-season or two and POOF, Davis is 275 pounds of pure muscle.

He's always gonna undersized bulk-size. And he's one of the two or three best players on the roster, you need to play him starter minutes. If he's hurt, or not 100%, I get the minutes limit, but if it's a lack of bulk, well shite, you're gonna have to learn to get used to it.

Nothing wrong with any of this. The fact that what you laid out is not happening makes me wonder if there is another hidden item in the balance pan.

The simplest thing to posit is that his relatively quick return from the stress reaction combined with reduced minutes and performance in those minutes is that this is some compromise between him missing more time completely and risking worsening the situation there.

I have no evidence of something ljke this other than the box score and my eyes, but why would his free throw accuracy plummet? And his contact aversion, as seen in a decent drop off in getting to the line?

Just a possibility. It's frustrating regardless, agreed. The idea that they are doing a good thing, even if it tastes bad now, is appealing and may be skewing my judgment.

Could this be something you guys can ask him about? You could lay the speculation to rest

I really think this is very overstated. Monty is fortunate in that circumstances surrounding the franchise prevent us from adequately judging him at a time where most other coaches would have to put up or shut up. However, especially compared to the previous regime, he is living up to his billing in terms of player development. I think he needs better assistants for long term success, but I'm pretty comfortable with him at this point in the rebuild.

I don't think we'd get an answer that is likely to be completely honest. There is no incentive for them to be accurate about such things. And, see Eric Gordon. Plus, it's also pretty personal. I rarely get into such things.

I'll pass it on to some of the other guys who do the pregames etc. and see. After all, that is just my assessment, and I'm far from being that kind of writer.

To me, it's about performance. I tend to just look for data and go from there.
