What bugs me... I walked into a restaurant last night during the second half in BR, the game wasn't even playing on the TVs. It's a nationally televised game and I bet you could walk into 80% of the bars / restaurants in BR and no one would have a clue there's a game going on.

I think the athletic dept deserves a considerable amount of criticism. The 2000,2005,2006,and 2009 teams were all very good and they didn;t get the type of boost and support they deserved. There are other issues.

This.

While advertising would help, there isn't a whole lot of fan support unless it's a big game. You're starting to see it with football too. Thousands of empty seats unless it's a big home game.

You could get the real hicks and hillbillies riled up if you told them there was some Nascar people for halftime.

Otherwise, bring back the Cane's Challenge. More TV or radio spots, better OOC, more exposure in the news, newspaper, talk radio.

I believe by mid next season, LSU hoops will be a hot ticket.

Well people want consistency. You can't expect a fan base to develop from 1 or 2 good years. You need about 4-5 years in a row of seeing the same coach and same style of play, with a lot of player stability, for a fan base to really blossom.

Players like Pistol, CJ, & Shaq were exceptions to the rule, but I don't even think we live in that same era of basketball where a single player could bring out crowds anymore. Even if we did, the type of people who only show up for a Pistol or a Shaq are not the type of people who follow a program consistently through the years.

How about actually recruit players that will be in the NBA? During my time at LSU, Big Baby, Temple, Chris Johnson, Thornton, Anthony Randolph, and Magnum Rolle played. All played in the NBA. They haven't had an NBA player since my senior season.

Do high schoolers come with a label or something that designates them as NBA players?

No but 5 star recruits and those that play in the McDonalds All American game have a much higher chance. Go for the one and done types. I hated the TJ was so against that.

tend to go to the traditional powerhouses like Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina. Gotta crawl before you can walk.

Bass, Davis, Mitchell, and Randolph all went to the non-power house that is LSU. J'Mison Morgan too.

Obviously winning consistently would bring the fans back, but LSU should take advantage of the month between the end of the football reg season and the bowl game by scheduling big time home games. Get teams like UNC, Louisville, Indiana, Georgetown or some other teams with great pedigrees to the PMAC in Dec. and make people start thinking about basketball before mid-Jan.

That's still dependent on a record and you STILL won't have a sell out crowd without advertising. The mizzou and Florida games this year was disappointing. Yeah, we had a larger crowed than normal but I don't think we've topped 8k in actual attendance yet.

I'm thinking one will build the other. Put LSU out there with national exposure playing prime OOC games and maybe you can get some talent interested in coming.

Maybe then I will have an interest in the program again. Recruit stars and not a bunch of un-athletic white people (Derenbecker,Ludwig,7 footer last year) with no NBA prospects and you kill my interest.

Loosing Greg Monroe and DJ Augustin type players in state doesn't help.
