Alright guys I am finally ready to learn the ways of the master race. I have been researching some components but am ready for much more experienced people to help. I am running games at no more than 1080 with 60 refresh rate. I am starting out my budget at $800. I may raise it with some upgrades after that but for now $800. Also I do not planning on overclocking for now but may down the road when I need a boost.
Picked this case up for $77 with shipping

That's a decent CPU and mb combo to start. $300 for the pair at micro center.
Throw in a 660 or 660ti. If you hunt hard enough you can get the board, CPU, and gpu for $500-$550. If you can get to a microcenter you can get a samsung 250gb ssd for 150. The 128 is $100. Corsair tx750m power supply is $99. It may be more than you need but it'll let you expand later. Figure $75-$85 for 16GB memory.

I had one before I got my 3770 and they kick arse. If you wanna OC, that mobo is pretty good. Plus if you get it with the 3570 its only $80. Pretty solid deal.
IDK if the deal still stands, but I got a 3770 and the z77 extreme 6 board for $330 last weekend. If they're still running that then its well worth the $30 extra.

That is beyond a fantastic case for the price. At $60 nothing compares to it or comes close. It's also built with great cable management in mind. I have an Arctic White version of that case coming this week with the window.

Just ordered it. $77 with shipping so still in good shape. Is there anyone near auburn that knows how to build when the time comes for me? Im not experienced with this.

that is a screaming deal for that case. I payed 110-120 when I bought mine.
Second the asrock boards with a 3570k. I don't know of really good deals like the others do. I recommend whatever 8gb of ram over 1600 mhz you can get for the least price. great deal on those samsung 840 ssd. a 256gb ssd will hold you over for a while before you need a HDD. get a cooler master 212 evo cooler for 25 bucks. Get a decent PSU. Theres really good deals out there on seasonics.

What's better? The asrock or the asus that blue recommended with the free memory. The memory looks like good quality too from what little I know about memory.

Asus boards are quality too. They're actually said to be higher quality than the extreme4

asus, msi, and gigabyte are considered the big 3 mobo manufacturers. However, I got a doa 230 dollar asus board and a asrock extreme 4 that works great. go figure. If I had loads of money to spend I would probably get one made by the big 3, but in my case I had already burned 200 on a doa board that they wouldn't accept RMA on so I was happy to have a 120 dollar board that works well. In other words dont skimp but you don't really need an asus rampage or sabertooth to get good performance. I would never buy a foxconn, ecs, or zotac.
fwiw coyote loves his msi z77 m power. don't know if thats in your price range, but if coyote says it overclocks well then its probably quality stuff. you also get the same free 8gb of crucial ram.

I am for ASrock all the way. In all the years building PCs for people, I've used all the major brands (MSI, Gigabyte, ASrock, ASUS, FOXcon, Abit, Biostar, DFI, Shuttle, Zotac, Intel, and even PC Chips, and more probably). With three of those companies, I have never had to RMA a board. Those companies are Abit, Intel, and ASRock.
Since Abit is gone and Intel boards are generally overpriced, ASRock wins.
In my own computers, I don't think I've ever used a motherboard over $200.

The Asrocks have great boards, they just use cheaper components compared to gigabyte/MSI/Asus (at least in their lower tiered boards like the extreme4 and pro4)

What should I do about an os? Windows 7 is ridiculously expensive. Windows 8 is cheaper but I'd rather not have to use it just for compatability reasons although I think that will eventually work itself out.
