TE Depth and '14 recruiting

This season we will only have 4 TEs on the roster. I expect that at least one walk-on will be added at that spot, but that is pure speculation. Two juniors, a sophomore, and a freshman.
Dickson emerged late in the season as a pass catching threat. Stokes was brought in to be more of a blocker. Dillon Gordon looks like an OL playing TE, but flashed some athleticism in high school. And Desean Smith is expected to be the primary receiving target at the TE position as just a true freshman.
We also have Jacory Washington already committed for the '14 class. He's more of a receiver than in-line blocker.
I think we'll take 3 TEs total in this class, with one being another JC guy like Stokes.
Candidates:
John Thomas - Trinity Valley CC (Former LSU Commit)
Josh McNeil - Co-Lin CC (may not be available 'til '15)
Anthony Jones - Edna Karr. Raw, athletic prospect that would need to add weight after being more of a basketball guy until this year.
Kendall Ardoin - Ville Platte. Same as Jones.
Clay Moffit of Catholic High is also listed as a TE, but may be getting looks on the defensive line.
My amateur opinion is that we bring in Thomas and Jones in addition to Washington. That would give us another big bodied blocker in Thomas, with two more tall, athletic receiving targets.

I think our TE class looks like:
Washington
Thomas
McNeil (his academic issues were more of credits not transferring than making the grades IIRC) I think he gets te credits needed

I sure hope this is the class. I am very excited about Washington; I was happy with Thomas; McNeil - I was sad we didn't get him in this class, but I think he has everything you need for a good blocking and pass catching TE.
So hope you are right.

That's what I was thinking. It would be kind of dumb if he had to go the JUCO route for 2 years instead of just making up some HS classes. I doubt he would need many credits since he was close to qualifying this year

I agree he only has to be at juco to get those credits and then a little extra I think. He's all LSU.

Washington & Thomas I feel like 95% chance they are both on it. McNeil is the wildcard but it's not a grade issue so I'm not worried. 4 to play 3 would be amazing to have with McNeil. Especially with smith and Washington.

This is where i prefer miles recruiting strategy over saban when it comes to grade casualties. Saban basically tells the kids who dont qualify to frick off (if he cant cheat to get them in). Is it that big of a deal? Probably not, but its to nice to pick up juco gems like this and keep supporting/communicating with the kid

Agreed, it looks better with recruits that are on the border coming out of HS of qualifying or not. They're more likely to commit and work hard to qualify knowing CLM cares about them as a person and if they don't qualify, once they qualify at juco they will still hold LSU in high regards

John Thomas was a beast. We have to get that kid again but that'd be a log jam if we take 3
Stokes
Gordon
Dickson
Smith
Washington
Thomas
Stokes
Gordon
Dickson
Smith
Washington
Thomas

I know "the numbers always work out" .. but I have a feeling '14 will be a 22-23 take kind of class

Will dickson be a senior this year?
Posted on 2/10/13 at 2:45 pm to redfieldk717

I wonder if we will go after Thomas again. Trinity Valley was a poor choice if we placed him there. They dont use TEs.
3 TEs combined for 8 catches total this year. Their top WR had 29 catches for 280 yards
