Well I'm not a hunter yet.

My trips into the woods have all been wma and just hiking with the kids or camping with the family.

I just don't like being way back on some isolated area without a handgun.

I've only hunted 2-3 times in my life and hope to change that over the coming years.

One time this season I had to post up my rear end on a tree. Had my TP in one hand and my 1911 in the other.

I usually carry a 357. It does a good job on deer and hogs. The largest one about 350 pounds. I shot one 250 pounder with my 40 at five to ten steps this year. I was not impressed.

Thank god somebody said something!!!

I was just about to post that I have never seen a bunch of scared little bitches. Hogs, bobcats (?!? wtf?) and dogs. Dogs people, dogs. If you are that scared of something in the woods, I don't want you anywhere near me. Someone that scared will start brush shooting.

I would love to see the latest report of someone that got hurt by hogs when they were not trying to catch or kill the hog. Or attacked by a bobcat. Or the last time a pack of dogs took down an armed man.

This is the OB board people, not the scared little bitches forum.

Back to the OP, I don't carry a handgun when hunting because I don't want to carry all the extra stuff that will only make more noise on the stand.

You might need to have your sarcasm meter checked! I don't think any of the above posters have a genuine fear of bobcats or dog. I wish we could all be as tough as you though.

I may (or may not) have missed some sarcasm, but this thread is full of people that seem to think that hogs are like roving packs of rabid, starving wolf-bear hybrids.

Oh, and I in no way claim that I am tough. I just know that there is nothing in the woods that will hurt me if I don't mess with it or do something stupid. (Other than a GDCK but that is just common sense.) This is especially true if I am armed.

Nope, very little sarcasm noted. Hell, last week someone was asking for suggestions for a handgun capable of defending against wild hogs while working. I think the most common suggestion was a 44mag with 6-8" barrel!!

I know nobody that carries while deer hunting. I also know nobody who has ever been eaten by a hog, bobcat, wild dog, coyote, huge snakes, meth head, blond headed amazons, squatch, or any other mythical abomination.

You never know when a 20lb bobcat will take down a grown man.

Pretty sure I first stated that I carried one because I just like pistols.

Maybe I was giving the OB too much credit. I carry one to head shoot doe that break the 25-30 yard mark. We have bear but they are twice as scared of humans than anybody is of them.

The only thing that roams my woods that I might need to protect myself from is outlaw, meth making, river rats
