No Kickers In this Class?

Or did I miss someone? I looked and didn't see any projected in the 2014 list. Anyone know how our current kickers rate and do we have enough to carry us the next few years?

Kickers can just walk-on. Don't worry about it.

From DandyDon this morning:

From what I understand, LSU will not be adding any more scholarship players to this year’s class. The Tigers did, however, add another kicker to the team in Alex Kjellsten of St. Louis in Lake Charles. According to reports, Kjellsten will be a preferred walk-on, which is someone who has the same benefits as a scholarship player except that he is not on scholarship and has to pay his own way. A regular walk-on does not enjoy any special benefits such as eating with the players and living in the players' dorm. Kjellsten, who is only 5'8, 140, made first team Class 4A All-State in 2012 as a place-kicker after making 7 of 10 field goals, including a 52-yarder. He also punted 37 times for a 42-yard average and landed nine punts inside the 20-yard line.

Saw him kick @ ND in Crowley. He's a damn good kicker. Solid addition.

Is a preferred walk-on the same as a gray-shirt?

No worries in this department. Colby Delahoussaye has a big time leg. Has distance from 60 plus.

Nope.
A grey shirt is promised a scholarship after one semester... A preferred/lesser walk-ons are not guaranteed anything....
Most walk ons who contribute to special teams or somewhat break in to the two deep (4th quarter play) usually get a schollie when attrition sets in...

As was said above, they are not the same. The gray shirt benefit to the athlete is that it preserves his eligibility (5 yr clock), but it comes at a cost. A grey shirt can't be part of the team and he can't be enrolled full time if he attends college. A walk on will use one year of his eligibility, while a grey shirt will still have 5 to play 4.

Ah, thanks for the explanation (gray shirts, pref walk ons) , guys.

I believe that Alex's father is Johan Kjellsten, an LSU All-American in tennis back in the 1980's.

What about Punters? Do we just have one on the roster?

Les does know we have a Dutch player that wants a scholarship right?

I'm very interested to see how Hairston handles the field goals.

a great get for us, he can punt and place kick.
I never had heard of a preferred walk on before, so now we know.

Thanks, Tiger 10S. I'm assuming a solid soccer background.

So 3 preferred walk-on kickers in a 2-year span? Hopefully one of them can do the job. I hope Hairston's accuracy is ok if he's doing the placekicking. He's the only kicker on scholarship, would be a waste of one for a kickoff guy only.
