Yeah I know it is in the heat of the moment of a loss but you would think he would be a better player... Granted his dad played here and when Courtney is in we get some quality minutes and even some points. I mean it seems he has regressed tonight blowing the wide open lay up and why have him inbound the ball on the last possession where he throws it in the back court. Most basketball players know based on time and situation always go to the goal for a possible three or a two with the hope of a foul! I really hope this kid improves during the off season otherwise lets free up the spot!!

Or we let the coach decide who plays.

Neither are worthy of playing. But we have no depth, so someone has to play.

How the frick does anyone pass the ball in the backcourt with 1 second left is beyond me. No basketball IQ whatsoever.

Carmouche is the one who turned the ball over on the inbounds play.

ETA: Nevermind, I misunderstood the OP.

If this is your reasoning for giving up on an 18 year old player in 1st year on the team... I don't know what to say. Just based on that last play, don't you wonder what the heck Hickey was doing in the backcourt? Its hard enough to make a pass from that sideline position, but even harder if you are passing against 4 players guarding 3. As for anything else, his playing time has been very inconsistent this season.

I think Hammink will prove to be a good player or at least valuable. Looks like he needs to get used to the speed and physical style of play.

The kid is a freshman from overseas. He's adjusting to the college game. Cut him some slack.

Cutting him would be absurd and ridiculous.

Hammink's father was not very good and raw as a freshman but he played because we needed him. When Shaq and Stanley Roberts came in the next year we redshirted him for that year. He played as backup to Shaq for the two years after that. His senior year he finally got his chance and showed us how much he had improved and made all SEC and was drafted by the NBA.

Perhaps he should be redshirted next year and allowed to practice and grow in his skills. Then let him play and let's see what he can do.

It was a bad position. What is he going to do in that situation? He's told to give the ball to the leader and most clutch guy on the team. While it was a very bad mistake, I'm not going to pin it on him.

I like the way you're thinking here. Personally I would like to see him get minutes as a point guard, which would be killer for a guy at 6'7". He seems to have the handling skills and good speed.

I might be dating myself, but I'm thinking Ron Harper here.

Might be a good idea.
I'm a member of the Tip Off club and get to hear coaches' reports prior to games. They tend to be a bit more forthcoming in answering questions in that scenario.
The coaches have implied that Shane is a bit of a goof-off, and not serious or intense enough.
I think he needs to mature as a person and a player. Some kids just take longer to grow up, and that is a separate issue from skills etc. So a redshirt year may allow him to mature personally.

I've been disappointed in his play so far, but I do think he's been alright on defense and seems to know how to set a pick, when given the chance.

I guess we need to be patient.
