re: Giles Island vs Tara-bowhuntingPosted by Rayvegas1484 on 2/8/13 at 10:18 pm to INFIDEL
Is there a trophy fee on top of the hunt fee or is that included ?

What i gathered out of my last Google search is Giles is 1800$ for 3 day in Oct-Nov. And 50$ tip for the cook. They also have lodging but unsure if that's included.
Tara is 1700$ but you have to have Miss. licenses which cost 214.87$ for 7 days. Also didn't see anything about lodging.
Giles is located out of Ferriday La. so i'll assume you can use La. licenses

Tara has a top notch camp that has plenty of individual rooms.

Bucks with 8 points or less must be at least 4 ½ years old.
Bucks with 9 points or more must be at least 5 ½ years old.
The exception for Bow Hunters states that any buck that scores 140 inches gross or greater is legal for them to shoot.
This is a mandatory fully guided deer hunt. Per each three-day hunt, each hunter has the opportunity to harvest one Trophy Buck and one Management Buck. In the event Giles Island Hunting Club is unable to provide a deer hunting guide for every hunter a drawing will decide which hunter will go guideless for that session of the hunt. Here is the criteria for the guideless deer hunter shooter requirements:

Id to go bow hunt it . I've been fortunate to kill two pretty good ones the past couple of years but they were both with a gun . I may run into the same problem if I had a bow in my hands

I know I always bring this up, but Giles was my hunting club growing up- Clermont. I don't know if I'd spend the cash to hunt there but I would love to ride my bike through there and check out my old squirrel trees and wood duck ponds.
