Whats the plan for Chris Cotton? He's prolly my favorite player on the team. A true "dealer" on the mound. Would like to hear from the Baseball peeps on the rant.

Same as last year. Very valuable as a long reliever when needed.

Probably competing for the closer spot. I'm just guessing, here. Any pitcher position beyond Friday and Saturday starters is all a mystery and up to OOC play really.

Man thats it?

I wouldnt mind him as the closer. I know closers are usually big righties that throw gas, but Cotton pounds the zone and is a vetern

Wasn't he a hybrid Long-relief/setup man, when Berry started wavering the second half of the year?

Well the "plan" and what I think his role should be may be drastically different than what he will be doing by year's end.

I think Cotton's best and most effective role on the team will be weekend long relief. He proved that last year, being able to come in when our starter struggled early to bridge the gap and give us 3 solid innings and potentially get back in it. Additionally, barring any SP struggles, he can be the 7th and/or 8th inning guy (a la Bertuccini) to set up for the closer.

Now, with our in uncertainty at our 3rd weekend spot, CPM might try him out there. I know some rantards were calling for that last season and this offseason. We shall see. I don't think that is his best role because his "junk" which is outstanding, can be figured out after a round through the batting order.

We shall see. CPM has done some interesting things with the baseball team in years past. One thing is for certain though - Chris Cotton will be a leader on this team.

I was going to say that about Cotton. Isn't he like a lefty Maddux? Hits his spots and has a lot of movement with plus junk?

If this is the case, starter or closer isn't a good spot for him. He needs to be long relief or the setup man. Setup man would be perfect if our closer is a flamethrower.

I really do not want to see Cotton starting. Remember Ott starting?

Best guess, first out of the bullpen Fri or Sat to get to whoever closer will be
Still could end up being closer
Depending on how Sun starter shakes out, could end up there if not needed fri or sat

It's the rant, he's expected to win the Cy Young.
