Without a doubt the greatest movie composer to ever live. In honor of his 81st year of living, I present to you all 5 of his Oscar-winning soundtracks.
Fiddler on the Roof (Excerpt Only)
Jaws
Star Wars
E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
Schindler's List

While I love all of your selections, this is my favorite John Williams song.
BTW the soundtracks for the prequels were fantastic.
Duel of the Fates

I love Duel of the Fates, too, and I agree the soundtracks were probably the best thing the prequels had going for it.
Many of his soundtracks have been nominated for Oscars, but only five have actually won. You look at his soundtracks for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, as well as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and you see soundtracks that had a legitimate shot at Oscar gold. And that's only naming a few.
All told he's been nominated for an Oscar FORTY-EIGHT times.

Indeed. It's amazing what a great composer can do to a film.
The best tribute to Williams I've found.

There was a period of time wehre I was really really into orchestra music, and when I was, I was really suprised at how many huge movies he's done the score or entire soundtrack for.
