Looking to get a .30-06, as the title implies. What one would you recommend: Remington 700, Browning, M1 Garrand or whatever else tickles your fancy. I've always thought having an M1 would be fun, but then again you can't hunt a lot of places with semiautos.

Like where?

I would go with a bolt anyway, and just pick up a few different brands and go with what feels right, you ask too many people and you will just get a bunch of half truths, look at Remington 700, tikka, savage, ruger, browning, and just go with what you like, all are good

Why can't you hunt with a semi auto?

The M-1 is an AWESOME rifle. But if you want one to hunt with, Remington 700, Winchester 70, Browning x-bolt or a-bolt, Savage has really improved (while Remington has arguably fallen off their game). Really a lot of great rifles out there right now.

I really think that if you don't just like building up and tweaking your rifles that Browning is just about the best thing going in that price range.

From what I have heard recently, Remington 700s aren't the same quality as they were. I have a M70, but my next one is definitely gonna be a Tikka T3

I've never shot a bad 30aught. Just go pick up a few and get which one you like best. This is one of the few caliburs you can do this with.

i love the 700, but I don't leave anything stock (except my Brownings). I grew up with 700s and if you're going to customize it, it's really your best option. That being said, a lot of the shite that Remington is catching is generated by them producing rifles that they think are "affordable". It's their own fault and it pisses me off. That being said they still produce great rifles. Winchester did the same thing for a while and then they got back to their roots.

That model 70 I posted makes my dick move.

Deffinitely 700, but get a Garand too just because they're awesome.

The Ruger American Rifle is good stuff too.

Love my Ruger M77 30.06. Good round for deer and you get lots of ammo choices since its a very common round. M1 would be sweeter than yoohoo though. All the big name rifles are great though. Find one you're comfortable with, because the all shoot great.
