Anyone watch a lot of Raven ball earlier this season...their offense?

CC, what did he like to do with his offense? If he is our new OC, I know he won't necessarily run the exact same offense. But what do you think it will look like? Does he like the power? Deep ball? TE usage?

It's basically the same offense with more deep routes.

Running backs do well under him, typically

Ray Rice had 2000+ from scrimmage one year, LT did it like 5 times.

He did VERY good work in San Diego. They improved just about every year he was there and ended up in the top 10 several times.

I remember LT catching a ton of passes, too. Blue and Hill have pretty good hands and Magee was a WR.

A lot of swing and screen passes. Uses the tight ends a lot. He's been trying to find a deep threat for four years, so he finally found a guy who just runs under bombs. That was irritating for a long time.

But considering what the Ravens looked like before he got there, it was a sea change. Really great to see a functional offense, which we hadn't had for a decade. Really, since Ted retired.

Its a classic (some might say traditional) offense that blends power running inside and out. The passing game is also traditional, quick slants and outs are combined with medium range routes, play action, screens, and topped off with calculated but regular shots deep downfield (some on double-moves, some not). They definitely kept the TE involved in the passing game (Todd Heap, Pitta, etc). Running back screens are also a staple. Its sort of a basic "style", but that does not equate to "predictable" which, IMO, has been our problem the last several years. but with those basics, we will be multi-dimensional, and use all 11 guys on the field.

Blame most of the Ravens losses the past 2 seasons on going away from the run in the 2nd half. For some reason they forget Ray Rice is in the backfield. Anyway, knowing Miles is a run first coach I don't expect this to happen.

Didn't the Ravens have a pretty good TE for a while? Desean Smith wouldn't have to worry about touches.

Being a Ravens fan, I can help you out. He runs the "air coryell system". He wants to stretch the field vertically with his Wrs and TEs . However he can run the ball, when he wants to. His problem in Baltimore was his reluctance to open up and give Flacco more flexibility. He's really good at developing young Qbs but struggles when they're ready to take the "elite" or so step. He doesn't do many bunch sets either. He coached Brees, Rivers, and Flacco so he's been around some good qbs. In summary, he likes his Wrs to go deep and utilizes a FB in the running game.

Sounds like Les with Charles Scott and Jeremy Hill.

The TE's did well this season only because Flacco loves throwing to the slot receiver on the right side, especially late in the season. They put Pitta and Boldin in motion a lot and exploited those areas. LSU's TEs are down on the line more and used a lot in PA/blocking schemes.

That sounds promising. It seemed like LSU went to the horizontal passing game to much last season. With the way we ran the ball, DBs could play closer to the LOS therefore defend the run and the pass without worrying about getting beat deep. Sure we ran some deep routes with the outside WR but never much with inside WRs or TEs. Desean Smith would change that.
