The Green Lantern, while it may have been a train wreck, was still somewhat fun.
As much as I like Ryan Reynolds it was bad casting. He was meant for the Flash if anyone.

I think they wanted to capture the smart aleck one liners that helped make Tony Stark/Iron Man a hit.
Reynolds was less a problem for me, but the villain being a gas cloud and the fx was pretty bad IMO

If they wanted that then I guess Reynolds was a decent hire but he didn't actually do that in the movie. It was just a mess all over.

I was referring more to Stewart, who is a bit more gritty.
And comic book sales mean pretty much nothing when you are talking about making money at the box office. You have to sell it to the current movie going audience, not the fans. The comic fans would probably make up 30-40% at best of what they would need from an audience to make a successful movie in Hollywood terms.
I'm not saying I dislike GL, hell I like GL and would go see Wonder Woman or Aquaman done right. It;s just a really tough sell to a normal audience
If Marvel can sell a Guardians movie, DC should be able to sell the GLC.
The first movie was set up wrong. Hal should still be the man, but it should really be about The (DC)Guardians.

WB isn't Marvel. If this thing doesn't stay in development hell, it's doomed for failure.

DC will as usual frick it up. they could make aquaman and cybprg cool but they wont. they should do marvels formula. theyll have a good superman movie and terrible shite for everyone else. they should do bruce timm version of batman

Young Justice was canceled?
Yeah and Green Lantern. As usual, it's all based on merchandising and YJ and GL didn't sell enough toys. This happened with Thundercats too.
The funny thing is Cartoon Network seems to have writers that want to put out good material but good material to us doesn't really translate to toy sales.

One word: Leadership
And Marvel was built as an Entertainment company, not just as a comic book publisher, in modern times.
It's:
Marvel Entertainment
And
DC Comics
For a reason. Nothing against DC, I was so very badly want a JL movie, they just aren't built to make one, even from the top.

quote:You hit the nail on the head with that word "gritty" because DC never published the "gritty" superhero comic books. Compared to music icons, DC was always the Beatles to Marvel's the Rolling Stones. It was only in relatively recent years that DC began getting even somewhat edgy. People who grew up in the 50s and 60s usually were brand-loyal to either DC or Marvel. I was a DC guy. But now I have to admit, with the exception of Batman movies (and yes, maybe even Green Lantern), the DC heroes and villains come off like cardboard figures next to their edgy, sexy, gritty much more interesting Marvel counterparts.
If they did Green Lantern well it could make money, but I think they would have been off choosing a more gritty Lantern rather than Hal, he just doesn't mesh as well with today's audience. And that's a similar problem Superman has

I think people will really be surprised how good mos is, just a feeling. The reasons TDK trilogy was great and the reasons I think mos will be incredible are the reasons I think a JL movie just won't work.
