Welcome back Chad, too bad you couldn't spring Breesus with you.

Seems like there could have been back channeling between Payton and Ryan's people before he got reinstated.

just a guess.

meh, then you would think he wouldn't have made that bee line straight to the rams. I think payton knows of Ryan to some degree... its just an odd scenario. And why is it taking so long for him to interview?

Plus, there have been multiple reports, confirmed by Crennel's agent, that he was never contacted by the team. Yet he was listed as a top candidate. This in my mind confirms that Payton is putting out misinformation for one reason on another.

Its hard for me to call it misinformation at this time because all we know it could be 100% that Ryan is the obvious plan at this point. But the why and how's are very tough for me to grasp.

It could be an attempt to find a person in the organization who's leaking info. It could be a middle finger to espn, who treated the Saint org. like crap.

I find that to be unlikely given the consistency of the reports and Glazer reporting the same thing and you know he's "verifying" with his people, not just regurgitating tweets.

Glazer tweet simply implied that he's the leading candidate, not that they plan on hiring him.

I understand the slight differences. It's hard to factually distinguish a "plan to hire" and "leading candidate and his job to lose" basically if the end result is Ryan is hired. The reports don't bother so much as why is he the leading candidate with his track record and without even an interview, plus why is it taking like 2 weeks to even interview?

Because while his track record may not be great, it's better than Grantham and whoever else they're attempting to hire, which is a position coach. In my view we'll hire Ryan if we're not convinced by the other two. In other words, I don't think leading candidate = first choice. It's more of the "safe" one.

I'm very disheartened by the lack of opportunity it appears we are having to hire positional coaches in the NFL.

I'm pretty sure we'll get to interview one from the Ravens. Most teams want their coaches to get promotions.

Monachino guy? He spent like 5 years as positional coach in Jax in a 4-3 system... been promoted in Baltimore to LB coach. Never coordinated before. Would he be capable and knowledgeable enough to install a 3-4 system here?

Well that's how it usually goes, and that's what the interview is for. To see if the guy is ready.

Bob Slowik LB coach for washington has a decent background, not sure if he's coordinated a 3-4 before though.
