He's a great player, but deeply flawed offensively. Certainly not worth the max he wants to make him the Pelicans starting SF. Link also includes Austin Rivers and CP3.

In today's NBA, he's worth a max contract. And will get one.
He may not be the best outside shooter, but he can finish at the rim, pass, rebound, block shots and play/guard multiple positions.
Considering guys like EG, Boozer, Hibbert, Nene, Joe Johnson etc all got "max" deals, I'd say Smith won't be the worst guy to ever get a big contract
Even so, Smith has transitioned into playing PF mainly. Not sure he would even fit here

Give him a good SG like Gordon and maybe he won't take as many shots?
Who knows, Monty got Aminu to figure out how to play his game, maybe he could do the same with Smith?

not saying he isn't a great player or is unworthy of a max deal in general- just unworthy of one from the hornes
he's been mentioned here more than a few times as a solution at SF- which makes little sense at that price on this roster.

you mean like Joe Johnson?
this problem has been Smith's biggest weakness his whole career. doubt it changes as a 9 year vet on max deal

Smith can guard the opposing teams best forward. Whether that be the 3 or 4. Allowing Anderson to defend the weaker offensive player of the two positions.

I just don't think e fits our team that well to be honest.
We would be better off spending that cash on a brewer/budinger and get better depth..

I've watched Josh his whole career. you don't want him at the 3. and esp not at max money. immensely talented guy, makes a lot of really high bball IQ plays on both ends of the court, but also makes enough bad ones to leave you scratching your head a few times every game.
pros:
- plays hard
- durable
- good ballhandler
- blocks/ affects shots without fouling
- quicker than most 4s, with the athleticism and length to make up for being "only" 6'9"
- sees the floor pretty well and can pass well for a 4, esp. from the elbow and the post
- can guard 3s on occasion
cons:
- shoots too many j's (duh)
- whines to refs and lets calls/ non-calls affect him way too much for a vet
- overconfident in his ballhandling and passing which leads to...
- bad habit of grabbing def rebounds and trying to lead breaks, which often ends badly
- could stand to rebound better
- bad FT shooter in the clutch, and just bad period this yr
